Caught in the act

After my last thread I have just caught Spencer peeing in the kitchen, under a different cupboard I came home and there was another pee under the same cupboard so cleaned it up and washed the whole floor with a weak bleach solution. Nothing at all in the litter tray until Skye went in and had both a pee and a poo. I cleaned it and then after a bit Spencer went in and had a poo but no pee until I caught him just now.

He is absolutely fine within himself, playing, stalking, cuddling, eating etc. Does it sound like a uti? I can't understand why he has suddenly started peeing on the floor when the litter tray is clean but poos in the tray?

Re: Caught in the act

bleach doesnt remove the smell for him - try bio washing powder.
do you have 2 trays? some prefer one for each function, mine have 2, but newton does both in both!

Bleach may actually attract him to pee,I think it is the ammonia in it.
GreyHare and Aurelia like this.

I don't use washing powder, and this pee was in a different place to the others

I have one large tray in the kitchen/living room (sort of open plan) and they have both been happy using just the one since I got them. Will bring the other one through though and see if it helps.

I just can't understand why he's suddenly started doing this - especially when the tray is clean.

Re: Caught in the act

few questions sorry if they have been answered elsewhere

how old is he?
has he been 'done'?
has *anything* changed recently - work hours/social life/food/litter?

he may have simply taken a hatred to the cat litter - it sometimes happens, try a different tray with different litter available elsewhere in the property and see if that fixes it.

He is 5 months, not been done yet but it is being booked once Skye has her second vaccination in a couple of weeks. Nothing has changed that I can think of - I could say food, tried them on Animonda Carny and some Bozita. They seem to love both, get Smilla normally but wanted more so could do rotation as they were getting bored.

I don't think it's the litter as he goes in the tray to poo?

There is no ammonia in bleach. In fact, it would be dangerous to mix ammonia with bleach.

Re: Caught in the act

I just thought using a bleach solution was best as it's what people recommend to clean litter tray? Only other thing I have for cleaning the floor is Flash with Febreze and not sure if it is safe for them so thought I should go with the safer option.

Re: Caught in the act

he could be doing very early scent marking behaviours if not neutered yet but not quite ready to full on spray yet

you'll soon solve it I'm sure

Do you think they would neuter him early if I mentioned this to the vet? He was born in April so will very soon be 6 months (don't know date).

When they scent mark do they do full pees?
