As several regulars on here know I have an amazing friend called Val who has taken in a few cats on a foster basis and helped as I've found them new homes. She is an amazing woman and despite being desperately sick with cancer she is *always* willing to help others and almost always strong and cheerful.
Well, she has just got a kitty of her own, to keep! another rescued waif. Tilly and her brother were bought by some nearish neighbours of Val's last november as tiny kittens and allowed to roam from 12 weeks old - never neutered or vaccinated.
Tilly's brother was run over several months ago - they live near a very busy main road near a supermarket/main road into town.
So Tilly is just coming up to a year old - she was thrown off her original owners balcony in June and has been living feral/stray ever since. Several people in the estate have been trying to look after her.
Val finally managed to catch her and has taken her in last week - she has major fur loss, weighs 1.1 kilo or 2.25lbs and after an initial examination appears to have a broken pelvis.
I spoke to a vet friend and described symptoms - front claws scraped down to nubs, her hips 'rock' if she stands for long or tries to climb and she has trouble lying comfortably and she is sleeping a *lot* - only awake 3-4 hours a day. Val is on benefits so money is tight but has a vet appointment - my vet friend has said little point xraying her though as everything feels in allignment, she is mobile(ish) and has full bladder/bowel control so prescription is cage rest which she is already on, she only comes out the crate for cuddles on the sofa in an evening.
We think she may have been caught on a car and dragged as she had a habit of sleeping under them.
She did have 'bubbly' breathing and rasping with gunky blurry eyes when first caught but is now clear eyed and her chest is clear.
Miss Tilly will be getting vaccinated and spayed after Christmas once she is at a healthy weight, her pelvis has had chance to heal and in general in a better place.
We are also getting her onto a decent diet - even after healing she is staying indoor only due to the roads in their area and minimising Val's exposure to outside illnesses.
To help Val afford the decent diet I am selling her the food at cost as I bulk buy fairly decent food (my cats are on restricted grain/grain free) so I can sell her the good stuff for the same price as she can buy Go Cat. This also means Tilly is on the same food as my guys meaning if I have to look after her while Val gets treatment there's no worries about diet.
We are also going to take Tilly on when Val cannot stay with us any more - hopefully it won't be for many years. We will either keep Tilly ourselves if she gets on with our cats or make sure she gets a fantastic forever home - just as long as she doesn't go into rescue.
Anyway - I know the rule - so pictures!
