cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

My beautiful Loulou has lost her extra weight.... she has a lovely slim waist again but has a hanging flabby tummy...looks as if she is carrying kittens........... she is out and about most mornings, and I have upped the games of chase in the house so she is exercising but will she just loose this flab in time or will it just hang forever? either way she is simply beautiful.

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

I have the same problem with my cat Chewitts so will be watching this thread! I think it is also a problem with spayed cats that they tend to have hanging bellies.

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

my boy Indy has it too - we call it his 'swag bag'

lots of climbing and stretching exercise can help tighten it up a bit but some cats are just prone to it

gratz on the trim waistline Loulou!

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

Milly has a saggy belly from being overweight several years ago, and it hasn't gone. She looks like she's had a few litters of kittens, but she's quite happy.

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

I'm lucky as Storm hasn't developed the pouch yet, mostly because he exercise quite a bit and we don't overfeed him, I'm hoping it wll keep it at bay!

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

I thought it was a carry over from when they were wild, in that if a predator grabbed them there their internal organs would be protected by the pouch.

Cat Primordial Pouch, Abdominal Fold or Belly Flap Nothing to do with weight, or overweightness.

All 3 of my boys have them to varying degrees.

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

Have you considered plastic surgery?

Seriously (and ) there are veterinarian plastic surgeons--most in California--who will give your baby a tummy tuck. The mind boggles.

Ellie has one of these pouches pretty badly. She was long and lithe until her spay too, and when she came home post-op, she looked like she had no internal organs left she was so skinny. Ever since, she's had the swaying empty pouch. I think that's how the nick-name Ellie Belly came about.

Re: cat lost weight but how to loose the flab?

Meeko has one and has had it since he was around 6 months old.I agree with GWM it is ,to a degree, a natural fat layer, some may of course have more than their fair share .Meeko calls his a sporran and I have heard someone on the forum call it a "mouse pouch"
