New Cat owner - Catnip?

Hi,

I was wondering in what form is the best way to give my cat catnip - I have bought some spray and spray it on his blanket which he loves but I know my friend who has Ragdolls eat little catnip treats, also how often are they allowed to have it.

Re: New Cat owner - Catnip?

Hi tigglesmum,

Congrats on now being owned by a cat

I use cat-nip spray on my lots soft toys, barring #2 cat, Fudge, the rest love it, but the best way I've found is to get valerian cat-nip toys. They smell quite strong to us but the vast majority of cats can't get enough of them and will go into hyper-mode playing. I'm pretty sure they can be bought from a member here.

I give mine the treats from time to time, tho' as with other treats, it's usually only once a day when I have them.

Re: New Cat owner - Catnip?

Agree with above Aurelia's home made toys are great Here's a link to her page Comfy Pet Beds ~ Beds, Toys & More Lots of members have bought them .Most cats love catnip, but some dont seem to be interested in it at all.The dried catnip leaves are good too, just a little sprinkle on the carpet can have cats rolling around. Also good to bring interest back to old toy mice ect.A quick rub in a small bag of dried catnip and they love them all over again.

Re: New Cat owner - Catnip?

Hi Tigglesmum, welcome to PF and congrats on becoming a slave

My Frankie doesn't really play with toys, he was a rescue and I think it's because of his previous life . But I buy them all the same I recently bought some catnip from Pets at Home, Willow 100% Catnip and catnip toy, I put the catnip in a sock and he loves it and the toy too, he'll only play for around 5 minutes, he looks and acts very happy like he's in a little dream world

I haven't tried the spray yet, I will have to get some.

Re: New Cat owner - Catnip?

My experience of catnip is that it sends Coco loopy! I gave her a toy mouse recently with catnip in and she sat in the corner with it in her mouth for about half an hour, growling at anyone who approached her. If you tried to take it off her she would swipe at you and turned really aggressive. She isn't usually the slightest bit aggressive. So catnip is now banned from our house!!!
