New Cat For Mum
Mum, has a big old ginger tom that is very loving and sits on her all day and goes to bed with her at night. He is now getting old but does get on with other animals that come into the house, dogs, cats, and he is very loving.
I would like to get Mum another big cat of the same sort of nature, Ragdoll, Maine Coon size and temprament i.e. loving but she has to have one with close hair as grooming can be a pain as she has Arthritus in her hands. Can someone suggest a breed or even a cross, or if anyone can point me where there are some young rescue ones she'd love that. I say young as he/she will need to grow and get on with the resident. Her current adult male weighs 8.5 9 kilos and she'd like another to grow to that size. |

Re: New Cat For Mum
Some ragdolls do need alot of grooming it just depends on the coat type. All ragdolls should be groomed at least once a week no matter what. Most of them don't have coats that matt really bad like Persians but they do still matt if not groomed. If you think your mum could cope with that then I would say a ragdoll is a brill choice most ragdolls do grow to a large size and if they are from the American lines they do tend to be larger but not all are large though like humans you get some big and some small just depends really.
Most ragdolls are very loving and very trusting and that is why they should never ever be let out on there own. I doubt that your mum will get a ragdoll kitten from a rescue but if she would like a slightly older one then get her to fill in this on line form UKRCC Adoption Form. We do get other breeds as well. if we have anything suitable in we will get back to you. We do not re home any of our cats from the 1st Dec and usually don't until the end of Jan as Christmas is not an ideal time to re home a cat. Has your mother also thought about a short haired breed like the BSH? there would be very little grooming with them and they grow quite big too. Umm I short haired Ragdoll not seen one before myself Good luck

Re: New Cat For Mum
I think I know what your saying now. Some kittens have short looking fur but there fur gets longer as they get older
![]() One of my rescue raggies was breed by the same breeder and he had quite short fur and now has much longer fur ![]()

Re: New Cat For Mum
Thanks for your info so far she had a BSH look-a-like (British Blue) but it was rather mean and looking at the images of them, they look the same.
Snowshoes, I'll show her. Perhaps I should post up a picture of Ginger, he is a big lump but the company he gives her is amazing. |

Hi
A ragdoll sounds a great idea. There's one snag. Sorry to throw in a negative vibe, but, how bad is your Mum's arthritis? In 4 years time, could she lift the adult cat, without pain? Does your Mum live alone? If not, then her arthritis shouldn't be too much of a problem, especially if you live nearby. ![]() Why not go for a mix - shorthairXragdoll or MC? The shelters may have the very type you both decide on ![]() Good luck ![]() Dulally
