Cloudy eye

Just noticed one of Eric's eye seems a bit cloudier than the other. His pupil on his right eye seems a little bit misty and isn't reflecting the light as much. Other than this he is fine, pupils is dilating and he can definitely see fine out of it. Just worried that slightly grey. I will see if its the same in the daylight and get him in the vets but just wondered if anyone had encountered this??

Re: Cloudy eye

Hi, I don't want to worry you but years ago I had a cat with a cloudy eye and the vet took one look and said it was cancer of the eye, now of course this doesn't mean your baby has this, it could perhaps be a cataract starting or something else, my present cat had a similar thing with some cloudiness but this was connected with a scratch on his eye, unfortunately they both had an eye removed I am no expert but just wanted to let you know of my experience, I am glad you are making a visit to the vets because if nothing else it will put your mind at rest. I'm sure everything will be fine and treatable, please keep us posted and good luck at the vets

Re: Cloudy eye

That's what was worrying me although it has come on very quickly, I noticed it straight away this evening and its was absolutely fine yesterday. On closer examination it looks a bit sticky so I think it might just be an infection. Not sure if cataracts could occur in such a young cat (18 month) but maybe I'm just thinking of old people lol! Will check tomorrow and get him for a check up.

Re: Cloudy eye

If you look at the eye from the side hun, does it look a wee bit lumpy. It is more likely to be a small corneal ulcer which can occur if the eye gets a bit scratched or gets a bit of dirt in it. These are as common as anything and are usually easily fixed with some AB drops from the vet.

A bit more serious would be if he had feline herpes but given the absence of sneezing, discharge etc this is very unlikely.

Give the gorgeous Eric a big snug from me and glad that he is still a happy healthy boy.

I knew someone else would come along with more experience When Scamps eye got worse after the scratch we were told that as he had cat flu as a kitten it was likely that the herpes virus had probably lain dormant for all these years and made matters worse, think I remembered that right

Re: Cloudy eye

Out can also be due to a detached retina, which sometimes is reversible if the underlying cause is treated fast enough
