Re: Ragdoll - non allergy...

I think, if a person has a tendency towards cat allergies, they are never going to be totally non-allergic to any cat. It's just that resistance builds up over time, to the point where the allergies aren't really noticeable the vast majority of the time.

As I've said in previous posts, I'm allergic to pretty much all animals to varying degrees. (After owning horses throughout most of my childhood, I was amazed to discover a few years ago, when I spent time at a stables, that I was VERY allergic to all the horses there, presumably because I hadn't been around horses for a few years and all my resistance had gone.) With my cats, I'm fine most of the time, although I do take a mild, non-drowsy antihistamine, without fail, every day. But during the moulting seasons, when fur is coming out of them in handfuls, I have to take stronger antihistamines or suffer with sneezing and sniffles, and itchy, red eyes.

Re: Ragdoll - non allergy...

I thought I was allergic to my Ragdolls but actually it was the litter that they had been using with the breeder, once i changed them to OKO I was fine. I am allergic to cats in general though, just not my own.

Re: Ragdoll - non allergy...

My three cat allergic friends are just as bad with my longhaired than my short. The actual fur length or fur itself even isn't the allergy causer, it's the saliva, and I am not under the impression that long haired cats have different saliva than any other (nor any breed) the allergy depends on the persons individual reaction to each individual cat.

Re: Ragdoll - non allergy...

My BIL is so allergic to cats. He had Meiko for 5 years and was still snuffle central and someone said (as she was indoor) to let her out as she would groom less as she would get wet more.

Anyway she goes out for an hour a day now and he is not snuffly at all.....Go figure?!
