Exclamation suckling..

Bit of a strange one... kittens are 12 weeks old today, and have been fully weaned from mum for 2 weeks, (she was speyed on monday) and on 2 occasions now, I have found one of the little girls letting the others suckle from her.... what is going on..

I think it's perfectly natural. They are just doing it for comfort I think.

Re: suckling..

Spot, my male kitten, did this to his sister Lula a lot when they were first weaned, and has continued to do so ever since. They are 19 weeks old on Saturday, and this has reduced as they have got older. As others have said, it is nothing to worry about and is just a comfort thing.

Re: suckling..

My old cat Ashley used to suckle on my ear lobes and she was 18 months old!
She did grow out of it though it felt very very weird.

Re: suckling..

It's normal. Henry and Ellie used to suckle on Henry (talk about weird, watching hte kitten bend himself in half to find his own nipple!) and on Aber sometimes. Chaucer has just kept me up two nights in a row trying to suck on my chin and shoulder blade. He goes in waves--he'll slow down, then pick back up for a few days. I wonder if it's connected to the lunar cycle!

Like everyone else has said, it's a comfort thing.
