Re: Possibly a stupid question!?

Thankyou everyone for your replies!
It is the short hair I'm allergic to (I'm 99.9% suresaliva deffinately not saliva -trust me to be weird!

I'll deffinately look into the other breeds mentioned, but I love everything about the Maine coon- size, temperament, and look, but maybe I'll fall for a siberian too!!
Of course it will still have to be a few years before I can get her, but ohh I can't wait!
There doesn't happen to be any n.I breeders on here are there!?! Because a boat trip will hike up the price of a kitten a fair bit, and I want to pay for quality, not a bargain!
I've got kitten fever now!

People with the breeds mentioned (the long haired ones), how are they with little dogs?

Re: Possibly a stupid question!?

Ours (in my signature) are Siberian pedigrees and I have been fine with them. My allergy to them is now virtually non-existent since they were neutered at the end of August (prior to neutering it was noticeable but not severe). We also use Petal Cleanse. I am usually VERY allergic to cats so I'm a happy bunny.

Re: Possibly a stupid question!?

Maine coons are fine and generally very relaxed with other animals, children etc as they are very laid back kitties!

eek: I could eat those kitties up with a spoon! To be honest, I'd never really seen any siberians, but they are sooo adorable! Might have to look into those to!!!

I think you should. But then I am biased! I think Siberians are absolutely fantastic and the ones I've met have been gorgeous. I have some more recent pics of our two here: Dinah and Monty - updated photos

Also check out The Siberian Cat Club for more details.

Re: Possibly a stupid question!?

Maine Coons get on very well with dogs they even act like dogs at times my nephew is allergic to alsorts of things & most cats but is fine with MC's I think its becasue they dont shed like most other cats if they do its more a lump of fur so easily picked up unlike other paws I could mention

Re: Possibly a stupid question!?

Wicked super awesome cool!!!
I can't wait to get her now! Is it true that they are best excersised on leash like dogs? I'd never let a cat wander, she will be mainly indoors (and spayed) but do you need to let them have that freedom or are walkies with the dogs ok?
I've obviously never had a cat before, but I don't mind sou ding like an idiot until I get as much info on her future welfare as possible!
What would you look for in a good Maine coon (or similar breed) breeder? Is it the same rules as when picking a puppy breeder, cus that I can do!? Does the registry system work the same way?
Or would I be best asking this in the breeding section?

Thanks so much everyone!

Re: Possibly a stupid question!?

You can walk a MC & most cats on a lead but best to use a harness we found a small dog one the best fit for our old fella however they dont walk like a dog

Breedes are best found here Home Page
