Re: Homeless cat care tips for winter?
Just by way of a small update for those of you who were following this thread early on, we now have a full time cat for the festive period and onwards. Nesty is now very much part of the family and has come on in leaps and bounds in terms of confidence and general catishness (that's a real word right?). He's back to full health after much vet activity and he seems like a much happier cat than he was when we met him. I never knew how much fun it would be living with a cat.
Here he is (slightly out of focus) just before we put up the Christmas decorations. I love that little guy! ![]() |

Re: Homeless cat care tips for winter?
First of all well done for taking care of the kitty. I had exactly the same problem last winter. We started feeding a stray cat, who was around for about 6 year (we moved into the house 2 years ago). At first he was very cautious and would not come closer to you. Well to cut the long story short we now rolls over in our kitchen, lets you stroke him etc.
As for winters.....we have bought Zeniu (this is what we called him) a simple wooden kennel for dogs. He sometimes sleeps there but we think foxes scarred him as he doesn't like it in there anymore. So if it's raining or snowing we left him stay in the kitchen. Only in the kitchen. Also we had trouble with him peeing all over the place so we bought a puppy training pads I have attached photo of his kennel ![]() And very glad you took him in!

Re: Homeless cat care tips for winter?
What a lovely story! I somehow managed to miss this first time around. How are you finding things with your allergy? My hubby is super-allergic to cats but after taking it slowly at the beginning and limiting his time with them, he's built up enough antibodies to be entirely okay with them now ( well, it has been 14 years... ).
Glad Nesty has found a happy warm home for Christmas ![]()

Re: Homeless cat care tips for winter?
Thanks guys & gals,
Just to respond to the allergy question.... I have no issues with Nesty at all. Literally nothing. In my youth I stayed in a few houses with multiple cats and had the whole snotty nose, sniffly, sneezy thing going on but I have no such issues here. And this is despite everything I own now beng covered in a fine layer of cat hair and having my face licked by him on an almost daily basis. Seems the allergies just don't apply here. Or maybe I got better, I have no idea. Frankly I'd happily tolerate a sneeze or two for this little dude! Also, to reply to saxa21. That's pretty much how we started out with Nesty but we just couldn't stand sending him out at night so we bit the bullet and tried upping the time he stayed with us. He liked it, we liked it and the world is a wonderful place Maybe try letting in live indoors fulltime over Xmas if he wants to? Maybe not? Just a thought.... |
