Re: would i be a bad person

I have 2 german shepherds and two cats that i had from kittens ,they are absolutely fine with mine ,the dogs will wander around the older cat and she walks in between their legs rubbing against them, never had a problem , the younger cat is a bit more wary(shes quite a nervous cat) and stays out of their way and they know so they just leave her be, she lets them get so close then runs which then makes them want to chase because they think shes playing but its not nasty in any way, if anything they are protective and mother ours .
I had a kitten with my previous GSD and a few times she came in absolutely drenched , i saw the GSD washing him one day until he was absolutely soaked, they always got on so well and she wasnt bothered by him at all and vice versa.
that said the dogs dont like other cats coming into our garden (so the previous post is probably right about them being territorial but in a guarding sense/protective), they will bark and go beserk with other cats, so i would say as long as its young and they can get used to each other and u watch them meeting first off they will probably be fine hun, i introduced them slowly every time.
I dont see how the rescue could say that really about one breed because i once had a terrier(shitzu cross) which killed my kitten and ate part of him ??which i never want to go through ever again, it was horrific

I think the rescue are just being very over protective but it does frustrate u that they are seen as devil dogs , as with any breed they all have the instinct and ability regardless of their breed its how they are brought up and introduced that matters more , my dad once annoyed me when i got my first GSD by saying 'what the hell did u get one of those devil dogs for?' having dogs all our lives and growing up with collies he had only heard the media coverage and thought all were the same , now he knows mine better he knows they are the softest things u could ever meet and i would actually say collies tend to be more snappy than a GSD from experience- the media hype has a lot to answer for where certain breeds are concerned and i dont just mean for GSD's its rotties, staffys etc it instills fear into the public and yet there are some of the lesser dangerous dogs that can be so much nastier at times

hope u get ur kitty , just introduce slowly and make a fuss of both so the GSD knows its not a threat watch carefully for nay signs and act if needed much as u would another dog and u will ok

As a kid, many years ago, I grew up with a German Shepherd and a noisy Siamese - they got along just fine - I don't recall any trouble between them.

This is the GSD I mentioned earlier in this thread with her 'favourite' cat.

And one of her with two of the kittens

Re: would i be a bad person

The lady who gave us Spock had three boisterous hard-bodied Staffies bounding around the place. They all loved to mother the kitties and were very gentle with them

Would you consider taking on an adult cat that has lived with dogs before?

edit: For what it's worth, when we were looking for a new kitty (and ended up with Icco), two different rescue centres were very rude to us for wanting to keep kitties indoors. It was a pretty disheartening experience. You'd think that with rescue centres stuffed to the brim with cats needing homes they might at least have been courteous about it. We're looking to bring home a rescue early next year and will absolutely not be going back to those two branches.

The Story So Far:
Spock (2010-2011), who began our love affair with kitties but whose grasp on the green cross code was sadly lacking.
Icarus (2011-...?), who loves noses more than anything else.
Mildred (2010-...?), who sings to the birds.

The twisted brainwrong of a one-off man mental.
