Does your cat want to be on the kitchen table?

One of my kittens has discovered the kitchen table. I don't mean the actual kitchen worktops - we have a table in the kitchen and he just won't keep off it. No doubt it will be the worktops next!

I don't actually want him to do this. There are all sorts of dangers he could come across - food which he shouldn't have, knives etc.

Does your cat/kitten keep getting on your kitchen table or worktop? What's more do you allow this or not?

How do you stop this from happening?

Re: Does your cat want to be on the kitchen table?

i dont have a kitchen table - but have same issue with coffee table.
did lift them off & say no - but when i turned my back..... hmph!

used flicking water to keep them off work tops because the cooker isnt noticeable - only thing i used water about.

the table - i've given up trying to stop them tbh! just take the plates & knives away quick!

My cats all walk on the worktops and table, so no advice how to stop them here!

If there's a way that someone else can suggest then go for it, it does get rather annoying.

Sorry cant help, dont see the point in stressing over something I will never change It is actually quite good as it makes me a lot tidier where work tops are concerned.I now put everything away and keep them clear.I dont have a problem with cats going on the work top, which is just as well,as they will anyway, regardless of what I think

All 4 of mine use the kitchen table as a feeding station, Jess has her bed there, above the radiator. The table isn't used for anything apart from a 'dumping' ground until things can be put away.

Re: Does your cat want to be on the kitchen table?

My cats get on both the worktops and the table. Be a bit hypocritical of me to try and get them off the worktops when they get fed on a separate worktop so the dog can't get their food. I have my main worktops and then a big section of cupboards and then there's another bit of worktop at the other side of the cupboards which they get fed on.

Re: Does your cat want to be on the kitchen table?

From the replies so far, it sounds like you either don't mind at all if your kitten gets on the table or you do mind and you have tried to keep him off. Nothing really in between.

To be honest, it's OH who keeps bringing up the subject about where their little feet have been and how he doesn't think that little visitors to cat litter trays should be walking around where food is prepared and eaten.

Very true but I always clean the worktops before preparing any food. But I'd do that whether I had cats on worktops or not.

Re: Does your cat want to be on the kitchen table?

Our cats are a nightmare for this so i now buy antibacterial wipes and give everything a going over before we prepare any food, we use boards and plates that are put away, so we get them out when they are needed.

I heard silver foil works but geez you would need alot for them to get the message. I tried it and it failed.
