Neepers new collar

thought i'd share this with you lot.... my stupid cat, Neeps, doesn't like collars and it took us 4 DAYS to get her current anti-flea one on her. It fell off once, and we had to leave it so loose round her throat that i could get my whole hand under it, she wouldn't let us tighten it up any further and as it was fabric it was a bugger to do so couldnt' do it sneakily while she was asleep.

anyway.. this morning i'm on the loo and up she pops from her rad-bed (which i can see from the loo) comes plodding over, here i think *why you walking funny?*. rubrub jumps up... she's not just managed to put her right front leg completely through the collar!!! so it looks like a bandolier.

omg! only neeps!

so shout to husband to get up and get some scissors as it's so tight that i can't get a good hold and it's right under her mouth so i'm scared she'll bite me (which is usually the result of collar fiddling).

so i hold her while giving her oomox (chin scritches inducing drool), husband cuts it off, takes a while cos it's as thick as my fingers! (well close to anyway).. not once does she complain, try to bite, try to get away.
the collar is ruined as the elastic safety bit is completely stretched out, Bastet only knows how long her leg was trapped.

once off she starts purring SOOO loudly then sits on me for about 5 mins for more oomox including rubbing round where the collar was digging in to ease off any discomfort, until i ask her to get off (yes she knows what off and down is! no common sense but has some intelligence).

now... this is the cat who DEATH ROLLS when you try to put collars on or even take them off! we were both flabberghasted by her complete control and trust.

she blatantly knew she needed our help but she just hates her collar so much it's amazing she let us do it with NO complaints at all!

Just as bubs has started being the most annoying cat in the house and is getting to the point where we are actually thinking of rehoming her for her own sanity, Neeps has also completely changed personality and is the cutest cat we have! she's no longer the aloof git, she is friendly, she even likes HUSBAND, she used to avoid him at all costs unless she was super frightened and then she thought he was safer to hide on than me *cries*
she even checks him for weakness now.. somethign she only ever did to me! (kneads belly or chest, i.e. checking for organ weakness to be exploited during plotting to off us lol), i'm quite jealous.

unfortunately for her.... this means a trip to the vets to get her chipped!... we expect a sudden and dramatic change back to deathroll cat lol

so make sure cats collars are loose. just NOT THAT LOOSE

Or not wear a collar at all

You certainly don't need anti flea collars and most on the market I would avoid like the plague.

If you must must have a collar you need to use one with a breakaway buckle, which will fall off if an animals leg/branch/anything else dangerous gets caught one it. The elastic ones are not safe at all.

Re: Neepers new collar

I've never used a flea collar in 15 years because my cat Buster got an allergic reaction to one and went all bald round his neck and the hair never grew back properly.

I have put a collar on Fluffy because when she was found she had a very tatty one from her old owners so I removed it and replaced it with a pretty pink one with fake diamonds.

Re: Neepers new collar

can't use the breakaway ones with my cats.. they last all of 5mins if that, and i'm not exagurating, which i've just forgotten how to spell
they all know how to get them off in under 5 mins using just their paws, and no opposable thumbs in sight. (jog on kitties!)
they're absolutely pointless and a complete waste of money, if they get them off outside they're lost.

in all the years of having cats, we've never had one lost from collar problems, the only reason neeper had a problem is cos the collar was TOO loose and too hard to do up without knocking neeps out first.

i gave her a flea collar to see if it made a difference, she's allergic to most spot on, and she's itching but as we've not got an infestation she's getting the fleas for elsewhere and our flea treatments are working in the house but not on her obviusly cos she's continunally picking them up.. anyway it made no difference so we're still unsure if it's her other allergies or fleas..
oh yeah.. can't comb... death roll ensues. mortuary would be involved.

we didn't get her chipped like rhubs due to her abject fear of vets and her use of deathrolls on them, they would have a hard time giving her one without at least a lost of limb if not a full nurse. this is the cat that ate through her drip and decided all people near her cage (during some treatment a while back) were ripe for sending to the glue factory, it has continued to surprise me that there's not a NEEP ALERT at the vets and NEEP vests, stun guns and barricading.. or lack of answering the phone when my number pops up.

but after this and the lack of a good collar that is easy to get on and not easy for a cat to get off.. it might be time.. also no collar no bells, that could be a problem as she's just figured out how to get round 2 bells noise!
too intelligent for her own good that one.. pity about the commonsense lol
poor old ivy mice colony.. neeps looks forward to killing you soon.

we'll see. so at the mo bubs is the only one with a collar on.
rhubs doesn't have a collar cos only small dog ones fit him! chunky monkey,he's chipped instead.. wasn't too happy about that either!
a dog collar would be ok with him as he doesn't actually go out much but as it's not got the safety elastic i wouldn't want to risk it as he does a good vtol up our tree to get the birds.

why are cats so problematic?? maybe i should have the bells implanted somehow? we have a mouse toy that squeaks when you move it.. implant that? lmao..course that would involve VETS! darn.. back to drawing board.

well that is the point of the breakaways, they come off easily I would rather have lost collars than a cat with its jaw stuck or strangled
