Do cats miss eachother?

I'm just wondering because I still have Ribbons' sister and she doesn't seem to be aware that Ribbons is gone. In a way I'm glad, but I know people who's dogs that have missed their dogs who have passed away, and I wondered if cats feel that same loss?
I still feel dreadful of course, even though I know it was the right thing to do, it's broken my heart doing it.

Re: Do cats miss eachother?

Firstly, I'm really sorry to hear about Ribbons. What did the vets think caused it in the end?

Yes, depending on their relationship cats can and do miss each other. I know for instance with mine the mother and daughter are very devoted and if left alone they will seek each other out so seldom apart! Dread to think what will happen later on!

Re: Do cats miss eachother?

#2 cat, Fudge, spent days sat on the living room windowsill just looking/watching for for her best mate, Black Tom, to come home after he was pts. Before that, barring the days he was at the vets for investigation, they'd never really been apart from her being a kitten. Wherever he was, she was never far away, then suddenly he'd gone and it took her a while to adjust, tho' I don't think she ever has completely.

Re: Do cats miss eachother?

Sorry for your loss, it's always a hard decision but you did what was best. Yes they can miss each other, my two previous cats were like brothers, although they weren't and were two years apart in age, we introduced the second cat when the older one was two and apart from initial wariness and hissing they settled into a partnership and were the best of friends. The younger was terminally ill and the other never left his side and watched over him, when he died the remaining cat slept on his grave and sat on the fence above it, he was lost without him and I could see the sadness in him, I believe he was depressed for a while afterwards, sadly we lost him 18 months later and buried him next to his pal

Aww sad stories. I know Ribs couldn't go on, the vets think that it was maybe a cancer in her liver or brain seeing as there was still such deterioration after her supportive care. I know it was best, but there's still that anger inside me that life is so unfair.

I know how you feel, I lost both of mine to cancer, one stomach cancer the other liver cancer and to top it all my dad with bladder cancer all within 18 months. I think life is unfair sometimes, but I guess as they say, there's always someone worse off. At least Ribs didn't suffer and you did the best for her, think of all the happy times and all the love she had

Re: Do cats miss eachother?

I think so yes.
My cat is only just getting back to herself after missing her kittens. To make things easier, we kept one though so she still has him.

Re: Do cats miss eachother?

I know how horrible it feels when they are taken away from us prematurely I know Sooty was 14, but at the end of the day he had so much life in him that if it hadn't been for the very aggressive bone cancer he would have gone on to live for many many years to come. It makes you feel so powerless

In answer to your question though, when Frankie, Sooty's partner in crime, passed away he was devastated. He howled and searched for him for months. Frankie was three years older and he was a maine coon whereas Sooty was a good ol mogmog. They were never apart though, which is why he was so upset

RIP Ribbons! xxx

Re: Do cats miss eachother?

I think they do. My cat Buster went down hill as soon as Amber died. She died in the August and we had to have him pts in the October.

When my mum had her cat India pts she came back with an empty cat carrier and her other cat Coco gave my mum the most awful look as if to say "What have you done??". Coco seriously grieved India and kept searching round the house to look for her
