My poor treacle
Had to rush treacle to the vets tonight.
yesterday she was acting a bit off, but today seemed fine. I assumed she was reacting to the storm that hit us. Today she seemed fine. But at 10ish tonight i saw her lying on the floor, she was having a fiti think and she was bleeding at the mouth. I rang the vets as soon as i could. After she's stopped she tried getting up, but strugged. I caried her to the sofa and laid her down. I described what was going on and the vet said to bring her in ASAP. He checked her over and she'd bit her tongue and cut it, so the blood wasn't serious. He couldn't tell me for sure what it was, but asked me questions like, indoor or outdoor, what plants/flowers i have in the house, if i use chemicals anywhere she could get to, or if she's eaten anything she shouldn't have or if she's banged her head. I answered best i could, but i was crying so much, i doubt he could make sense of hat i was saying. He's going to keep her in over the weekend see how she goes. he said it may not come to it, but we have to be prepared to make the decision, if it comes to it, which made me even worse. Now i'm not going to know whats happened untill next week! Has this happened to anyone elses kitten? She's only around 7 months. |

Re: My poor treacle
Sorry to hear about Treacle. Hadn't realised she's a kitten. How is she now?
Ruling out poisons and head trauma, with the change in behaviour beforehand I'd suspect liver problems. I'd make sure the vets know about the aggression as well. In a kitten this is usually owing to a congenital abnormality-portosystemic shunt. This can be corrected with surgery. There are a few other conditions as well including transient hypoglycemia ( low blood-sugar ) or low calcium. These should show up on a routine bloodtest. Of course it may also be due to an infection. Hope she's better soon. Keep us posted. |
