Question Ridiculous questions and statements

Inspired by a thread over in dog chat- what ridiculous questions have people said to you about your cats?

My mother came to visit and asked me if the cats sit on command, I said no- she still sat there for 5 minutes saying 'sit' to them... she is odd about animals though.

The first time I met my neighbours they were holding their new male kitten. I mentioned I had a tuxedo girl, and their response was 'ohh, we want little 'catsname' to father a litter before he's neutered, can we get them together?' I had to pick my jaw up off the floor... they had only just met me! I informed tham politely that no, she was spayed and I didn't think having a litter for the sake of it was a good idea anyway. Luckily they neutered him without any fathering of litters taking place, and they are nice people... just... what a thing to ask straight off the bat!

So what odd things have people said to you?

Re: Ridiculous questions and statements

The funniest thing I have ever been asked was by a colleague at work who is prone to asking really stupid things! She asked me if having a cat flap would mean that burglers could get in! The worst thing is that she even admitted that she meant burglers fitting through the cat flap lol

Re: Ridiculous questions and statements

Living in Japan, I got asked by older Japanese people how I could sleep with a cat in the house. Seems a lot of people honestly can not sleep if they feel a cat watching them. They would put plastic bottles filled with water along their bedroom window to scare outdoor cats away from peeking in on them.

A girl I'm tutoring here in Korea asked me if my cat actually can use a litter box and she was so impressed that Ki never "misses" or "forgets". She has two dogs but has never had a cat, but she's 16!!

I think the worst thing I've been asked, though, was by the vet in Japan. I was pushing him to get my cat a rabies vaccine. (They don't vaccinate cats for rabies unless you are transporting them out of the country.) He sighed heavily and asked me, "Why don't you just get a new cat in Korea? Why do want THIS ONE so much?" Now, if she had been a dog, he would have been cooing all over her and demanding to know why I didn't have her dressed up in designer clothes like all the other dog owners in my town.

Re: Ridiculous questions and statements

A neighbour pointed at my cat and said:-
"I think your cat might be pregnant.
"I shocked if it is" I replied "It's been neutered and it's a tom."

Re: Ridiculous questions and statements

A few people have said to me that I'm making a rod for my own back feeding the kittens "cordon bleu" or "gourmet" food as they put it (Grau, MACs, Animonda, Smilla) as once they get fed something better they will never eat "the rubbish" again.

1.) It's not "cordon bleu" or "gourmet", it's just high meat content.
2.) It's probably cheaper than what they feed theirs.
3.) Why would I EVER want to stop feeding a good, cheaper food and feed them "rubbish" as they put it?

People are so strange!
