Cattery or pet sitter

I have a bit of a problem and would appreciate some opinions please.
We need to go away at the end of the month from Sat (leave am) - Mon.(home early pm) A breeder friend of ours was going to board the cats for us while we were away but due to lack of selling of new kittens she hasn't got the room anymore.

Would you put them into a cattery for those few days or have a pet sitter come round a few times a day for the time you are away?

Any opinions/suggestions welcomed.

Many thanks xxx

Re: Cattery or pet sitter

I would have a friend/nieghber/family member pop in a few times a day as you are away for such a short time. That saves upsetting the cat with moving to a cattery.

Re: Cattery or pet sitter

Depends on how many you have I guess. When we only had 2 or 3 cats we would put them into a cattery but now we have six we have used an Agency and had live-in sitters - was only a bit more cost wise but had the added bonus of knowing the house was looked after in our absence.

The pet sitters from agencies are usually retired folk and are police checked and they carry their own insurance.

Re: Cattery or pet sitter

I'd have a pet sitter unless you've got a relative that would do the job for you. It's much less stress if the cats stay where they are and you have the added bonus of your house being occupied too.

The cat sitters we were looking at don't live in your house, they just visit several times per day. x

Re: Cattery or pet sitter

Having done all three (cattery, visits, live-in cat sitter), for me the cattery is the least stressful option - for me I mean, not the cats. The cats will certainly be happier in their own home, it comes down to whether you can trust the people not to let them out (assuming they are indoor cats) and to notice any medical emergencies.

Question Re: Cattery or pet sitter

Where do people find cat-sitters from? A friend of mine in America knows cat-sitters in his city, but before I've just seen you guys chatting about it I thought it was purely an American thing. I like the thought of getting a cat-sitter in if ever I needed to go away for a day or two, but I wouldn't have the first clue about where to find one from.

Re: Cattery or pet sitter

lol i simply have not been away since having my cats! went to malta and mum stopped over for a week, now she has a cat so can't. we have to go abroad next year but my boyfriend's parents are cat sitting. it's complicated looking after my cats, once ha to be kept seperate etc etc... so wouldn't trust a sitter. anyways good luck! i'd try get a relative to look in on them, or if not a cattery.

Re: Cattery or pet sitter

I think it looks like I am going to have to find a cattery - all the sitters I have tried are booked for those days

I have had a look round 2 catterys and I am afraid I wouldn't let my babies stay there, I will have to have another look online today and try and find some more to view.

Does anyone know any they would recommed in the Huntingdon/Peterborough/Cambridge area?

thanks xx
