Re: So cat litter again?

I was using wood pelletes and switched to Natures Gold.It has cut down on the tracking alot but it does work out more expensive.I got the 3 x 10 litre bags from Zooplus and the whole lot lasted me about 4-5 weeks which at Zooplus prices si probably just ove £5 per week.I don't know if I'm doing it wrong though but according to what it says on the bag it should last way longer than this. This is for 2 cats by the way.

Re: So cat litter again?

Bette how many kitties do you have, and how many trays? Can you describe your litter tray maintenance routine?

Re: So cat litter again?

Hi Aurelia
I have 2 cats using one large covered tray.I filled the tray to begin with and then filled it deeper after reading advice on here.I clean it out moving poos as soon as I see them and wee clumps at the same time if I see any too.Otherwise I always scoop at least twice a day morning and night.

Re: So cat litter again?

Is it one of the jumbo trays Bette? Our jumbo ones take about 12.5l each to fill to a decent level.

How do you scoop? Sounds like a daft question I know, but do you use a slotted scoop and shake off the excess when you scoop a wee ball? I usually find that not much litter sticks to number 2's so no waste there for us.

If the wee balls break up and this means you're scooping more, you could try scooping more frequently, or try adding another tray so there isn't so much traffic in one tray which will break up the balls.

I do use a slotted scoop but sometimes I probably don't shake off as much excess as I could from the wee balls for fear of the wee balls breaking up. I can't really figure what I'm doing so wrong that it lasts so much less than it should. The tray is just large, not jumbo.May be another tray is the answer.........................although since they've both been using this tray with no problems (fingers crossed),I'm a bit reluctant to change anything in the litter department!.

Re: So cat litter again?

My 2 were using shredded newpaper at their breeders home So when they came home I had the tesco own unclumping that my Angel cat used they just tried to eat it

So i brought the breeders celect its just recycled paper pelets all natural.

It is truley awful stuff tracks terrible last week alone i used 20 litres

I am only using it because it is natural and as soon as they stop running round with it in their mouth I will change it.

I even had a piece in a cup of tea the other day

Re: So cat litter again?

Thanks for all the input & ideas peeps The nobbley car mats I put down do help & the other rugs down on floors downstairs, & the stair carpet, & the landing & bedrooms its a Louie & Tango thing pants, tails & snowshoes the pensioners are much more civilised they would'nt dream of draging loo roll round the place

I can get the nature gold locally, well sort of but free delivery but its called Oko gold when I rang they said its the nature gold so I shall give it a go in the huge tray 1st as that is the one that always has the worst tracking from I dont mind some but this is totally spotty

Mine are short hair but Bobs has quite long hair on his back legs and tum and Oko get absolutely everywhere. Wish they hadn't refused to use crystal litter. Any chance yours would use crystal it's def the best imo for value and smell. Boo decided he prefers to poo on the floor than use it though
No, I'm fine with it - even though it does track - it's very economical, doesn't smell, easy to clean out etc - I'll put up with the tracking. I think it's because two of them have fluffiness UNDER their feet - we use tracking mats and 90% seems to stay on there.
