Makes me sad

I had to pop in to my local pet shop, i never normally use it cos ive heard they sell kittens and rabbits! Sure enough in the back was a tiny black kitten sitting in a litter tray
Poor thing couldnt have been much older than 6/7weeks. Also two bunnies in small cages no bigger than a litter tray

I took one look at the woman, shook my head and walked out. I will never be going in there again.
Why cant they change the law and make it illegal to sell live animals from pet stores...it makes me sooo mad

Re: Makes me sad

I completely agree. I always feel so sad when I see them locked up in such tiny spaces.

Re: Makes me sad

I agree, it's not necessary, I see the same thing in France and the living space is no better

Re: Makes me sad

I didn't think they were allowed to sell puppies or kittens anymore

EDIT: I checked and apparently it is not illegal, but obviously not a good thing. I would report them to RSPCA right away.

Re: Makes me sad

I haven't seen kittens or puppies for sale in a 'pet shop' in the last 10 years or so? Not even in Pets at home, or garden centre pet shops that sell birds, rodents etc. Never.

Re: Makes me sad

6 years ago I made the mistake of buying a kitten from a market pet shop. She was tiny I took her straight to the vet as she was covered and I mean covered in fleas so had her fleaed and wormed and she was aged about 5 weeks old

We called her Lexie and loved her to pieces I reported the shop to the RSPCA and they went to inspect it but dont think anything was done. Unfortunately she died a week to the day that we bought her. Just curled up and died. Vet said she could of had some heart condition or it could have been anemea from the fleas. I was gutted. Will NEVER buy from this sort of place again EVER!!

Re: Makes me sad

Aww that is so sad and to think many kittens probably die like that. I wish i could save them all, and turn these money making scumbags into proper kind, caring human beings!

The same thing happened to me about 5 years ago. Saw a kitten in a pet shop, Tiny bundle of fluff, she was a tabby, I called her Daisy. Brought her home and after a couple of days she started fitting, then flopped onto her side and couldn't move Took her to the vets and by the time we got there she was back on her feet but very weak Brought her home, looked after her as best i could, but she had another fit and died a couple of days later She was only 5-6 weeks old!

I reported the Pet shop to the RSPCA, but nothing happened! I revisited after the RSPCA had been and inspected, still had 2 kittens there only 5-6 weeks old, was selling puppies of 5 months old, and had a serious underweight rabbit. I phoned the RSPCA again and reported what I'd witnessed but again, nothing happened

I HATE all pet shops!!!!

Re: Makes me sad

The mind boggles! I dont get why the RSPCA let them keep animals in such poor conditions
isn't the fact that they are too young and living in tiny cages cruel to the animals....Thats what they are meant to stand for!!!!!

I've not got a high opinion of your local RSPCA centre either, RSPCA/WHATSTHEPOINTOFUS?

Shouldn't that be 'I HATE all pet shops ....that sell live animals?' ? Pet shops that sell pet food and accessories only are great!
All the pet shops round my region do not sell kittens/puppies.
