Just said goodbye to my little foster kitten.

Hi everyone,

We've been fostering the most adorable little black and white 3 month old kitten for the past couple of weeks. We suspect she was abandoned. She turned up at a friend's flat who couldn't keep her (allergies and pet-unfriendly landlord), and all our local rescues are full up, so we took her in for a couple of weeks. Little Maisie made friends with Wanda and Angus right away (Ariel, not so much, but he's a grump). Angus would even groom her.

We've found her a loving forever home with friends who have been thinking about getting a cat for a while, and she just left this evening. The goodbye scene between Maisie (now to be called Moxie) and Angus was heartbreaking! He scratched at the carrier, trying to free her, and when our friends went to pick it up and take Moxie home, he actually climbed on top of the carrier and draped himself over it!!

I'm so happy that little Moxie has a home but I miss her so much already. But then when I think that if we hadn't taken her in, she could have died by now, I think that maybe this means I should start fostering cats. But will the separation be stressful for my cats? Angus in particular is quite attached to her.

Well done you for looking after this little lady for this time and giving her the chance to have a happy, full life.

Whilst I think fostering is a truly WONDERFUL thing, I could never do it because I get FAR too attached, far too quickly and easily.

The cats would arrive at my home but never leave........

Re: Just said goodbye to my little foster kitten.

dalestorm, you'd have blubbed if you'd seen it! I nearly took a photo but I thought I'd just get depressed every time I saw it.

MoggyBaby, believe me, I was seriously considering sending my friends down to the rescue centre because I so want to keep her! But 4 cats in a small flat is probably a bit over the top. Ariel is going back to his owner in a few weeks, so we'll be back to a two cat family soon.

Even happier thought - our friends saw how nicely Moxie played with my two, that they've decided to get another cat from the rescue centre in a few weeks, and an older one at that.

How lovely for Moxie to have a forever home. Kudos to you for taking her in and letting her go to a new place but my heart goes out to poor Angus! I wonder if contact visits would be in order (only half joking!). It may be good for Angus to see her again but this could also be unsettling for him when she has to go again.
