Selling cats via facebook.

I'm part of a pets 4 sale group on facebook, trying to sell my fishtank. Not the fish I might add!

An Admin on there who claims she knows about cats has ''rescued'' this one who is pregnant, born on the 1st the kittens were and ready for rehoming on the 10th of October, making them 6 weeks old?

Well me being me, a gobby cow, said it's absolutely cruel to sell them at 6 weeks old and I begin to wonder about how much she knows about cats.

A rescue, stray, whatever, would need ATLEAST 12 weeks with kittens, not 6. Apparently, male cats don't get neutered until a year old. Just take a look at some of these comments, it's really winding me up now.

Hi Guys, Just wanted to share my latest editions to the family, which was not intended but unfortunetly happened before my girl could have her operation to be spayed. Unfortunetly lost the grey one, but all three black kittens are doing well. Born 1st september 2011

(OP): They will be ready on 10th october, but i will be vetting all homes and no kitten will be placed in a flat or on a main road im afraid. They are gods creatures and should not be couped up in a flat.

Nicole Wild And still nobody is the slightest bit concerned that she's selling them at 6 weeks old?! Admin.

#
***** it is too early, as i have always had cats and hand reared many earliest really shud be between 8-10 wks or they can suffer from not spending enough time with mum and siblings, learning how to eat and use lietter tray etc x

Nicole Wild They should be 12 weeks, even 8 weeks is too young If people don't have the time to dedicate to the kittens then they should've bloody well had their cats neutered at 5 - 6 months old. Grrr, really gets my goat.

**** no between 8-10 weeks is fine, as long as they are eating solids and drinking for themselves etc but 12 weeks is probably a better age....... sure the lady knows this......

***The OP is at work she will rectify after 3. I know the mother is a rescue that she's only had a short time pregnancy could well have happened before she took on responsibility. As for neutering at 5-6 months my Tom was sent at 9months old and they were sceptical about doing it that young they are not sexually or physically mature under 1 year. I know marcia cares deeply for her animals and other people's and has lots of experience with animals she stated she won't let the kittens go to any old home only special ones she's approved of so even if she introduces the new owners at six weeks I know she wouldn't let them actually go until they and mother were ready. She has seen the affect of taking animals too young in my parents dog who still attempts to suckle blankets when he's upset or stressed or there are too many people in his house

*****think you all need to give her a break she may have even wrote it wrong? i have had a kitten at 6weeks old before, i personally dont let mine go till 8weeks but im sure she knows what she is doing x

GIVE HER A BREAK?! I should just leave the group and then I'll be a bit more happier, ignorance is bliss and all that.

Re: Selling cats via facebook.

Apparently the vets have advised this lady to rehome her kittens at 7 weeks old.

Re: Selling cats via facebook.

Which pets 4 sale group is it?

I will back you up. You are correct, she is wrong! Though its not unusual for moggy kittens to be advised to be rehomed at 8 weeks (at the very earliest). Ideally 12 weeks............

Re: Selling cats via facebook.

Cats should not be couped up in a flat?? But it's ok to sell them at 6 weeks!!!

She needs to get her priorities sorted out! grrrrrrrrrrr

Molly isn't 'couped' up in a flat ..... she lives in a household where she is spoilt rotten and loved to pieces!!!

Re: Selling cats via facebook.

Very odd that she's worried about a cat being 'couped up' in a flat which is probably no smaller than a maisonette yet has little regard for the health of the kitten she is moving on prematurely!

Re: Selling cats via facebook.

Does a cat know the difference between a flat and a house then?
