People With 2 Cats

can i just ask what sort of behaviour between them is normal?

as i think most of you are aware of i gained an unexpexted second cat last moth after he found me, he was injured, full of infection and emaciated.

due to the circumstances he arrived the whole other room thing wasnt an option.

they seem to ignore each other most of the time, but every so often one will go up to the other, and kiss noses, and then moggy will bat out with her paw, i dont think she has claws out, and she hasnt hurt him at all, other times he will walk past and she will swip at his legs, but she does that to me too sometimes if she wants attention
other times ginger will come up to her to sniff her and she will roll onto her back and hiss
other times they will play chase up and down the stairs (no aggression)

moggy isnt a normal cat though, she is an ex feral (lived in my garden for 18 months surviving on food i put out for her, till i took pity on her and brought her in, i have the scars to prove it) she is a lovely cat, but she is very slow at adjusting to change, and shes very funny around new people and things too, im the only one she will sit with or let pick her up.
they both sleep on my bed at night, one either side of me (or ginger on me if he feels like it)

what im basically asking, is any of this behaviour a concern?

bit of background on them both

ginger has been in the house since august the 13th
he is 5 years and 2 months (we found his old owners but hes staying here) and had been missing since march, he lived in a multicat house hold before

moggy on the other hand, was 3 on august 5th
she lived feral for 18 months, and was brought into the house in early december (she was chipped and we found her old owners who couldnt have cared less) and we suspect she was hit at some time by some one (possiably a man) as she was very jumpy and flinchy (especially around men) but not so much now, and we suspect she was thrown out the house for toileting inside, as she refused to go for 4 solid days, and then when she could hold it no longer, she ran and hid straight after

Re: People With 2 Cats

Sounds fairly normal to me. Nothing to be concerned about. I think you would know if the cats weren't going to get on or at least tolerate each other. Touching noses is a very good sign. In a two cat household there is usually one dominant cat. I think in your case it's Moggy who is asserting her Alpha cat status!

Re: People With 2 Cats

yeah i think she is dominant, but i dont think she fully under stands how to be
ginger is still recovering from his injuries at the moment, and is still a bit of a bone bag, so is pretty much a push over
hes also a very placid laid back boy who loves sleep and cuddles

im just not really familiar with cat behaviour, i never actually intended to get one, much less 2 in in the space of 8 months!
but i wouldnt be without them

Re: People With 2 Cats

Sounds completely normal, my two came as kittens from the rescue and spend most of the day sleeping separately and chasing or playing in the evening.

Re: People With 2 Cats

Well when I had my first 2 cats...Sooty (male) & Sweep (Female)...There was no love lost between the two. Sooty would saunter over & start washing her then sink his teeth in & Sweep would lash out & spit, quite comical really, but he did used to cover her poop up in the litter tray cause she was hopeless at it
