Cat due to be spayed.

Rosie is due to be spayed a week on Friday, she will be kept away from the kittens but i want to know what i can do to make her feel more comfortable in that time.

How do you stop them from licking stitches?

The kittens will be bang on 8 weeks ideally i would of liked to have waited but she is starting to call and there is no way i want kittens again. And yes i know i have to keep her in and i am doing so and most of the time she is locked in my bedroom because i darent let her out in case she sneaks out or my 3year old decides she needs to play in the garden.

Anyway 16th is the day i just need to make sure i know how to make her comfortable and happy. Penny our dog is being spayed this week so its going to be an animal hospital

Re: Cat due to be spayed.

If she messes with her stitches at the vet she will be given a collar, she will probably hate it but its for her own good! I am sure if you do get a collar the vet will give advice as to feeding etc with it on, not had a girl done before so not sure.

Re: Cat due to be spayed.

Pixie was spayed yesterday and she hasn't bothered with hers, just lay down for a while and is now starting to get up and do things again, Lola was done a few months ago and she didn't bother with hers either.

Re: Cat due to be spayed.

Neither of my two females seemed to take any notice of the stiches as far as I recall, maybe the odd lick now and again, but nothing to necessitate a collar. But I'm sure if yours is different to this, the vet will provide one.

Good luck with it all

Re: Cat due to be spayed.

Between Rosie and the dog i am turning into a nervous wreck. I have always had male pets and there snips were so easy no trouble at all. Girls is more invasive.

Re: Cat due to be spayed.

Yes it is more invasive, but Millie was running around like a mad cat possessed within hours of her spay, and her op was a bit more complicated as she had ovarian cysts and also was coming into call ( not that I had noticed any tell tale behaviour )

Re: Cat due to be spayed.

Our cats lick themselves constantly and are always grooming each other but neither of them bothered with Dinah's spay wound. She licked the short hair around the wound but not the actual wound itself, and Monty stayed well away! I was surprised but impressed. We did buy a buster collar just in case (was only a couple of pounds) but didn't need it.
