Cleaning the floor where the cat litter tray is

I always used to clean my kitchen and utility room floors with 'Dettol anti-bacterial multi surface cleaner'. Since getting my kittens I am a bit scared to carry on using the Dettol floor cleaner. So far I've just been washing the floor with fairy liquid water - it's not a wood floor, it is ceramic tiles.

This morning one of my kittens had done a poo in his tray, it was slightly soft, and he stepped in it - result being poo on paws and brown paw marks on floor.

Now I know that the fairy liquid water is safe, but I don't think it will be killing any germs, and if there is poo on the floor, then surely there will also be germs left behind.

What do you use?

I would have thought fairy liquid water would kill germs - it kills germs on your dishes, doesn't it?

It the risk of boring people to death - clean the area with your detergent and then disinfect with a solution of diluted bleach. Properly diluted bleach will not harm your kittens and it kills just about nasty you would ever worry about.

I always mop my floors with bleach and water and use white vinegar to get up stains etc!

Re: Cleaning the floor where the cat litter tray is

I bought a disinfectant from a pet store which is perfectly safe and actually smells quite nice. I use it when cleaning the floor and the litter tray. If you are really worried then i highly recommend that option.

Any hot soapy water will kill 99.9% of bacteria.
