Question Tree Sap Cat - O.M.G

Hello Cat Forums,

long time no post from me here, im afraid Im im a bit of an abuser of the site and only use you when im stuck, So hopefully you will take pitty on me and one of my cats and help me out of this 'sticky' situation.

Last night after along time our more adventurous cat came home, covered in sap, its all in his tail, under his belly and on his sides in patches, He isnt in pain or anything but does look alittle down in the dumps.

The obvious solution to me is kitty needs a bath, but a quick google said vegetable oil and a cloth will remove it,

If you have any helpful advise I would really appreciate it, Cats and baths dont seem to go togeather very well to me.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Tree Sap Cat - O.M.G

I didn't want to read and run--I do hope someone else comes along who knows definitively. I think clipping or cleaning are really your only two options. I've read that baking soda and oil will work. Fish oil, vegetable oil, etc will work, but if you don't wash it off, then he'll lick it and he might get the poops. I also read that peanut butter will work--I suppose if you did it in small areas over time, he wouldn't ingest so much that he gets sick from licking off the peanut butter?

Good luck--None of the "cures" sound like any fun at all. Some cats will tolerate a bath, but then again, you might need a giant roll of gauze when you're done, depending on his mood!

Re: Tree Sap Cat - O.M.G

thanks for the reply, We decided to bath him with some sensitive shampoo, he looked like a drowned rat after and although he didn't enjoy the experience, he didn't go mad and try and kill us, he looks a lot cleaner and fluffier and is our friend again after a treat of some tuna, rather than stress him out further tonight I think tomorrow we will trim his hair where the bits are still stuck in.

Hopefully he will remember that climbing those trees results in unpleasantness.

Wow! That's a first! Glad you were able to get most of it out. I'm guessing he's not ginger, else you wouldn't have noticed it - a little amber cat (sorry, just watched Jurassic Park again for the first time in ages!).
