Do I get this cat or not? Urgent opinions please

So for a month now I've been really looking forward to picking tigger up (tonight) but I've been told by his owner he's had runny bottom for 4 days. Now he's On a terrible go cat diet and I think hes well due a good wormer. I'm just not sure now if I should get him or not and I'm supposed to be setting off about 5.30pm!!
Maybe a good diet and healthcare will be all he needs. She said he does get this from time to time but maybe that will change.
Do I get him tonight anyway and hope some chicken and pro Kalin plus a vets trip for check up and worm sorts him out.... Or do I run for the hills??

Re: Do I get this cat or not? Urgent opinions please

Can you postpone the pick-up for a few days, or a week, to give him time for his bottom to stop running?

It's a tough decision because, as you think, it could be his rubbish diet which would then be easily sorted out.

However, what if it is something more serious and you end up running up a huge vet bill........

I know you may not like this suggestion as you have been so excited about getting him but it would be wise to be cautious.....
Pixel and kaz25 like this.

Re: Do I get this cat or not? Urgent opinions please

I don't see why you would want to run for the hills? Like you have said he is on a pretty crap diet and that's all it may be. All cats can get runny bums etc just like me or you can - we can't expect our cats to be 100% all of the time. You have to at least give him a chance. I'd be pretty peeved if someone had agreed to get my cat, waited a month and then changed their mind.

The day I picked the kittens up I was really worried about whether I was doing the right thing but it was just nerves. I have Spencer on me right now kneading my chest and cuddling in and I wouldn't change it for the world - even though it's costing me loads in vet bills because their old owners were irresponsible.

I do agree with MB about asking if you can get him in a few days once he is better though.

I agree with MB and don't really think the owner should expect to to pick him up until he is better.

I agree with the others---you should still get him, but maybe wait a few days until he's better. It might be better for him anyway, since the stress of a move might just make him runny on its own. I'll wager a better diet and tons of love will straighten him out long term once you have him home.

Re: Do I get this cat or not? Urgent opinions please

Hi Jo , this really is a tough one to call and we all know how much you are looking forward to collecting him today, i would ask if hes had this condition for 4 days now why he hasnt had a trip to the vets just to be sure all is ok, It may just be the crappy diet he is on and if so with some boiled chicken and rice for a day or two should soon see matters sorted, how is he in himself? is he active, running about playing , is he eating drinking ok. or is he lethargic and quiet?. maybe a good idea to call the owner for a chat before you set off and ask a few questions, sorry i cant be of more help .............please keep us all informed........Chris.

Re: Do I get this cat or not? Urgent opinions please

It needs serious consideration, if this is a sickly runt, you'll be heading for £1,000's vets bills.

Kizzi was sick on floor in January and listless, the bill cost £700, as she was hospitalised, who knows whats wrong with the kitten? I would wait to collect until kitten is better, and ask if its been to the vets.

Hi, he's not a kitten. He's 18 mths.
Eating and drinking fine, ok in self. Not listless.
She was taking him to vet today so will call her when I get home and see what was said and decide then. It's tricky as hubbie away from tomorrow for 2 weeks so no car which means cannot collect him. Would be ok for short trips in taxi but not this trip. Appreciate all advice thank you. Don't think his owner is very cat savvy

Tigger is approx 1yr old hun, he's not a baby kitten.

Jo-Pop previously advised that he was not being looked after as well as he should be which is why she is now looking to take him on.

The question here is whether he has a runny bottom through poor nutrition or has it become something more serious.
