E-cigarettes vapour can be harmful for your pet cats (propylene glycol-antifreeze).

Posting here too, so that all the cat owners see this also:

E-cigarettes vapour can be harmful for your pet cats (propylene glycol-a type of antifreeze).

Studies have shown exposure to propylene glycol can cause renal failure, Heniz body and or hyperthyroidism.

Just putting that info out there.

Smoke e-cigs with care around your cats. Dogs aren't as sensitive to PG as cats are, so not much of a danger to dogs but still show caution around them also.

"Propylene glycol is an approved food additive for dog food under the category of animal feed and is generally recognized as safe (GRAS[27]) for dogs.[28] Similarly, propylene glycol is an approved food additive for human food as well.[29] The exception is that it is prohibited for use in food for cats because of a species-specific reaction in the body, as noted in 21 CFR 582.1666.

Veterinary data indicate that propylene glycol is toxic to dogs with a 50% chance of being lethal at doses of 9mL/kg, although the figure is higher for most laboratory animals (LD50 at levels of 20mL/kg).[30]

However, propylene glycol may be toxic to cats in ways not seen in other animals. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined that its presence in or on cat food has not been shown by adequate scientific data to be safe for use. Any such use is considered an adulteration of the cat food and a violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act."

A vet friend of mine, confirms the danger.

Oh dear. My OH just switched to these from regular cigarettes. They seem much better and give off hardly any discernible odor. But he still goes outside or down in the basement away from all of us, just in case. I'll have to tell him to be extra careful in the basement, just in case any of the cats come down to hang with him.

Just checked out the sites where I assumed the OP was getting their info from, and yes! seems it is true as there seems to be MUCH debate about this!
BUT! it is only the PG that is dangerous so it seems and NOT the VG - and VG is easily available - so may mean switching liguid if it is the PG that is being used!

PG vapour is odourless!

The liquid is toxic, and so are the vapours!

VG is okay, as far as I know. The alert is just about the PG for the moment.

All I know is they don't stink like nasty regular cigs!

I just looked up his brand and it is PG, so I'll warn him. I'm hoping this is just a step toward quitting anyway.

Wow.

But are these cigarettes any more harmful to cats than real ones?

I don't smoke myself but if anyone comes to our house these days i prefer them to smoke outside or if it's raining in the consavatory.
I don't like to think that my Furry friends are breathing nasty things in.
Yazmin my elderly British has chest problems as it is.
I am not against smokers at all it's just that these are my babies and they are very special to me

PG is toxic to 100% of cats, its classed as a poison to them.

Passive smoking is also dangerous (lung cancer), but as you know not everyone who smokes (or PETS who passive smoke) will get lung cancer. So, not 100 %.
