Kitten Weight!

Hi All,

I have a british short haired kitten who is 12 weeks, I am curious to find out what is ideal weight should be at this age, and how much weight he should ideally be gaining every week/month?

His current weight is 1270g.

Thanks all in advance.

Re: Kitten Weight!

What age did you get him? I would have expected a bit more from a BSH kitten, I wouldnt say he was underweight but my boys were over 2kg when I got them at 14 weeks, and their breed is persian x bsh back in the olden days before it became a 'breed'.

Re: Kitten Weight!

I weighed Willow tonight - and she weighed 1100g - compared to last Friday at the vets when she weighed 800g!
Obviously they are different scales so I will weigh again next Sunday on my scales to see what she weighs.
Ans she had just eaten her dinner - but not enough to add 200g onto the recommended (so I have read) 100g per week!

Definitely wouldnt worry about extra weight gain at this age! The 100g I would see as a minimum, not a guideline amount! Especially if your kitten has MC blood

Thanks GM - I wasn't worrying though - apparently she has pure MC mum and dad - but who knows!

I am very glad she is gaining, and she leaves any food she doesn't want to I know she isn't greedy

She doesn't sit still for 2 mins though - my OH has had a kitten before (my first) and he said she is the most 'kitteny' kitten he has ever seen

Re: Kitten Weight!

I've just weighed my 17 week old male BSH, he weigh 2900g! Such a chunk! He is now the same size as my tiny BSH female who weighs pretty much exactly the same at 11 months.
