Re: going round in circles

I am so sorry for your loss. It is terrible story. My heart goes out to you.

I am baffled as to why the vet went ahead with a dental in a already very ill cat. They would have known the GA was a huge risk in a sick animal. I guess they were putting all her health problems due to dental infection

Were other bloods taken? Do you know whether they checked for anemia, or kidney function?

Metacam is not an antibiotic, its used as an anti inflammatory and pain killer for cats. But does come with risks to kidneys, especially after a GA.

Do you know whether they ran fluids through cat, while being operated on? This helps the kidneys recover better after GA, and particulaty useful in older cats.

But with fluids come risk also, heart and chest (breathing) can be affected as fluid builds up due to a failing heart.

So many ifs, buts and maybe's. You did your best for your kitty that much you have to take comfort from. Veterinary science is unfortunately not an exact science. Made worse by animals not being able to talk and pointing us in the right direction to what is wrong with them, symptoms.

((((((hugs))))))

Re: going round in circles

Thanks everyone. Just a quick question, my older cat (19 years DSH) tolerated tetley but since we lost her my dad thinks he is depressed. Do cats get depressed? Even when they seem not fussed about the other cat when it was there?
He is very clingy and is now going on anyone's knee, whereas up to last week he would only sit on mine.
Also am bit worried he is ill, he has lashed out at me and my dad whilst we were stroking him, something he has never done before,he is such a laid back boy. Am I worrying unnecessarily? Bit dubious about going to vets especially when we are broke from the last bills and will he be put through unnecessary treatments/tests?

Let me first say I'm sorry about Tetley fleabag, loosing a precious one is never easy. I think that cats do miss their furry companions. When our dog died years ago our cat became much more affectionate and clingy and spent a lot of time looking for her around the house. It's very possible he is missing her give him some time and just keep an eye out for any signs of illness just to be sure.

Sorry again

Em xxxxx

Re: going round in circles

Don't worry - cats do grieve. When Frankie passed away Sooty was devastated, he howled days and nights, and would search for him everywhere. He did become even more affectionate (if possible!) too.
