Re: New Kitten

Hi & Welcome.
How long are you going to be out of the house for ? It is'nt fair on the kitten if you are leaving it for hours on end, as they need at least 4 meals a day, plus lots of playing and attention. As for feeding, you need to ask the person you're getting him off what he's fed on. He needs a good quality kitten food though.

Re: New Kitten

Hi

Thanks. I am out the house 8am - 6pm and i know that sounds a lot but i will be arranging for family to come in at least once a day to give him more food and fresh water. I will fed him his breakfast before i leave for work then he will get fed when my family visit. And I will leave a constant supply of dry food i'm just worried he wouldnt get fed enough. He's getting a mixture of dry and wet food at the moment. Not sure if thats right to do though?

Re: New Kitten

Yea, I keep biscuit & water down 24/7 then with kittens feed meat several times a day. Hi-Life 60% meat is very good and Natures Menu pouches, you can get both from places like Pets at Home. Get a decent kitten biscuit too. 8am til 6pm is a long time for a kitten, is the relative going to spend some quality time with the kitten ? They really need lots of attention and fun with toys, climbers ect. Put a litter tray in easy reach for him too

Re: New Kitten

Hi - I will need to have a browse round pets a home, i went and got the essentials ie litter tray bed toys etc. I know it is a long time and i'm starting to doubt getting him - i really want him though. Yes, hopefully he will get an hour long visit each day to break up his day and do they not sleep a lot of the day anyway?

Re: New Kitten

They do sleep quite a bit, but at 8 weeks will want a lot of attention, so might cry and pine if he feels lonely. They have bursts of energy, lol. Another thought, some kittens chew a lot, so make sure there are no live wires anywhere he could get at.

Re: New Kitten

What about having two ? They would be company for each other whilst you are at work. Two babies is actually alot less work than one, especially if they are siblings from the same litter or from the same household.

Re: New Kitten

Saikou that's exactly what I was going to suggest

One of my moggies had five kittens just over five months ago. A very close friend wanted one but because he works long hours I thought she would be lonely all day and said he could have two, but not one. He wasn't sure but did have two and now says he is so pleased he did as they are such good company for each other when he is out.

I come home during the day to feed my three five month old fur babes and when they were younger I popped home to check on them every couple of hours - kittens can get into a lot of mischief

I personally think an eight week old kitten needs more than an hour visit during the day. Yes, they do sleep but mine only slept for short bursts, then played for a while and then dropped off to sleep again. I think the poor little thing will get lonely after having been taken from his Mum and siblings. Just my opinion and I am sure there are many who will disagree with me.
