Please help kitten with fleas

Hi All.

My new Kitty Biscuit has fleas...she is itching and scatching and biting like mad, it is so upsetting to see. I stupidly bought some Bob Martin Stuff from Asda and it doesn't seem to have made any difference at all. I have also bought the household spray to help too. I put the spot on stuff on back of her neck on Wednesday this week but like i say she seems to be full of them still. I have combed her with a flea comb and got lots of black bits out but i can literally see the horid things crawling on her. I have read that 4Fleas tablets are good...do you know if i can give her one today, i mean so soon after giving the other stuff? I am desperate to help her out. I know it should be 2 weeks if giving her another pipet of say Frontline or something in case of a reaction to the 2 treatments. Would it be the same for the tablet? Thanks, looking forward to some speedy responses if poss. Cheers Again. Kelly

Oh please be careful Hunni you could over dose him I am not having a go just trying to stop you in your tracks please take him to the vet most vets do a health check for free or a nominal fee and tell them what you have treated him with and if they think it is safe they will probably for a small fee put frontline on him if he is under a kilo in weight or advocate if he is older my vets weight my kitten every month and use which one is appropriate shop bought flea killers are useless it is cheaper in the long run to get it from your vet

Re: Please help kitten with fleas

Hi Viv,

Yes i know overdosing could happen hence not just rushing off to but the tablets. My vet did say last week when we took Biscuit for her 2nd jab and worming treatment they just said to give her Advocat. Bt they did say it wouldn't be allowed until 2 weeks had passed by. I have been trying to read up on other non chemical ways to help when i went on PetsAtHome website and saw 4fleas tablets on there. Johnsons 4fleas on there. The notes say they are safe to use with other flea treatment i just wasn't sure if it meant collars/household sprays as apposed to pipet style spot on stuff...grrr i really feel for her and want her fixed. x

we are currently giving her some oral paste from vets for the worming. Vet also said if we use Advocat it treats both. Maybe i will just neede to let 2 weeks pass then go for that...i was just hoping for a mirical cure for her asap.

Re: Please help kitten with fleas

I am showing my age now when years ago we did not have flea products we used to take the kittens outside and use a flea comb (human) on them i think you can get pet ones now but you could also get a flea zapper which stuns the fleas then you can kill them yourself I know it's gross but you have to crack them to kill them

Re: Please help kitten with fleas

I don't know much at all about 4Fleas tablets (first time I've heard of them, to be honest), so I don't know how effective they are... but I would wait at least a few weeks before giving Biscuit any more flea treatment, even in the tablet form.

I think for now, focus on combing her with the flea comb at least once a day. This, at the very least, will get rid of any adult fleas on her which will make her a little more comfortable. I would imagine it would be okay to spray the house at this time to kill off any rogue fleas around.

Sorry I can't give you more advice, but didn't want to read and run.

Agree with above ,I would wait until it is safe to dose and use advocate or which ever one your vet suggests.Over the counter/non-prescription flea treatment/wormers are IMO at best useless and at worst can be dangerous.

Re: Please help kitten with fleas

thank you very much for the replies.
we have been using a proper flea comb so some are coming out, the adult ones running around on her tummy are awful to try and catch. She is allowing us to comb every part of her so she realises it is doing her a little good i think...
Behind her right ear seems to be sore as that is where she is scratching most, not sure if she has caused it to be a bit rough feeling or whether it is a sore caused by all the wretchid things sucking on her blood!!!!!!!! Sorry for ranting, i really feel upset if my pet isn't right! x

Re: Please help kitten with fleas

Hi kelike,

I think you should go to the vet and tell him what you already gave the kitty.
When we first got Alex, he also had a few buggys, we took him to the vet and he gave him Revolution (it kills both fleas and worms).

BUT, don't give her anything else on your own, seriously go to the vet and ask, its the best and safest.
