Advice Please

What are persian cats like to own? Are they good family pets?

A friend of a friend has a Lilac Persian who she cannot keep because of her house being repossessed and I was my friends port of call...

I'm trying to not let my heart over-rule the rational side of myself...

Re: Advice Please

My Molly is a treasure She is very friendly, loves her cuddles, loves to play. She stays alone during the day, doesnt seem to bother her, nothing gets damaged!! She isn't a big climber, a bit clumsy when she does try

I would recommend one

Re: Advice Please

Merson is half-Persian and is very loving, affectionate and attentive. He loves to be cuddled.

His other half is BSH so he's a very good combo.

I would absolutely recommend.

Re: Advice Please

I'm worried about my girl Tess more than anything because she can be temperamental with other cats when she wants to be. I wish I wasn't so soppy

It's going to be a hard decision either way I think.

The only thing you can do is try And using proper cat to cat introductions should make it a lot easier. You can find lots of information about introductions on here.

I think Persians tend to be pretty easy going so will probably let your other cat stay as Alpha without any challenge.
I would say the main consideration would be the amount of grooming needed to keep a Persian's coat in good condition. Also.....does your other cat have outside access as I dont think Persians are very good AT ALL with traffic.

Re: Advice Please

Persians make excellent all rounder cats. They are laid back, easygoing, quiet, non-destructive, and most really enjoy a fuss. If it gives you any idea, my kittens, not content with squeaking at me for cuddles at three weeks old, started to climb up my arm before they could even really walk, and all because they knew it would lead to snuggling. Mum cat follows me everywhere. I'd agree with the last poster though. They should be strictly indoor cats. They will make friends with anything which means dangerous dogs, strangers etc, and will think nothing of going home happily with someone other than yourself. Quite apart from that, if they're allowed to go out in wet weather, their coats get filthy in no time flat, and can get extremely matted with twigs and dirt which will mean frequent bathing which, in turn, may lead to skin irritation for the Persian snd frustration on your part.

I agree with this, I couldn't imagine Molly being outside! She is so ..... trying to think of a word that doesnt make her look like an idiot lol .... but she really doesnt have a clue sometimes.

Re: Advice Please

My two do go out yeah.

I just don't think I can give the little guy the home that he deserves...as much as I wish I could.

How can I be attached to a cat that I haven't even met
