Needle Like Claws!

Hi.

Our 8 week old kitten has extremely sharpe claws! He hasa scratching post, will the claws 'sand down' and not be so dangerous in the next few days or do we have to cut/trim them?

Darren

Re: Needle Like Claws!

If you want to you can get cat nail clippers and clip the tip of the nail off to make it blunt. Make sure you don't cut more than just the tip.

If you want to be sure on how to do it properly ask your vet to show you how to the trim the nails.

I got use to my kittens claws and eventually she stopped clawing me and now she only does the scratching post and the trees outside.

In a word - yes. They will become less sharp, especially if they are outdoor cats, (if they are to be indoor cats, there are fewer rough surfaces to wear down the sharp points).

Kitten claws are a bit like babies' teeth - unbelievably sharp when they're brand new!

Re: Needle Like Claws!

Cats use scratching posts to 'sharpen' their claws

We've always trimmed Maisie our indoor cats claws every few weeks
