Cat banged head

Do you think I need to take him to the vet urgently (even though he's been travelling around a lot in his carrying cage recently, which he seems to hate), or do you think he'll be alright?

He was playing and ran into a coupl of drawers that I'd pulled out to empty.

Re: Cat banged head

I don't think anyone who wasn't there or can't see your cat now will be able to answer this one. You will have to use your own judgement. Did he bang it hard, was he stunned? How is he now - behaving normally or looking spaced out and dizzy? Is he walking and moving normally? Are there any cuts or other injuries? Does he seem to be in pain?

If you are in any doubt about it I would get him to the vet. Hope he's OK - let us know how he gets on.

Re: Cat banged head

I would phone the vet. My kitten banged her head when she fell off a table and looked a bit dazed for a few seconds. Of course it was a Saturday night. I called the vet and they told me what to look out for in terms of concussion etc. She was fine and I didn't need to take her to the vet.

Re: Cat banged head

I think that I'd just keep an eye out for signs of concussion (e.g. disorientation, incoordination, weakness, vomiting, erratic eye movements) and call the vet if you observe any of those signs.

Re: Cat banged head

Benji is forever crashing in to things when running around the flat at breakneck speeds. I don't even get the chance to check him to see if he is ok before he is off again!

Re: Cat banged head

My cat Amber also knocks her head constantly on tables etc. quite hard and is fine and never shows any signs of what Polka said so they can take quite a beating, but take him to the vet if you are worried.

Re: Cat banged head

If you're feeling worried enough to post about it I think I'd ring the vet, explain what happened and get some advice-to set your mind at rest.

Re: Cat banged head

I fully agree with all the above posts Tiga hates knocking his head he will go and lay down for a while then he is up and about again but if he hit it hard I would definatly take him to the vet

Re: Cat banged head

My cats run around and crash into things head first quite a lot, especially on our tiled floors when they can't corner or stop as well as they can on carpet. The only time I've taken a cat to the vet over a banged head was when Sam tried to jump on the shower curtain rail, went straight over it, and didn't right himself because he was tangled in the curtain. He landed on his head in the bath. The vet checked him for signs of concussion and gave him an anti-inflammatory injection "just in case", and he was fine.

But as others have said, if you're worried, call the vet.
