Playing or fighting?

How do you tell the difference? Spencer keeps chasing Skye around the sofa in their room, Skye doesn't really look like she's enjoying it. He keeps running at her and jumping on top of her too. Neither seem to be being aggressive but just wondered how you tell the difference? I'm guessing it's just Spencer wanting to play but Skye never seems to stand her ground and tell anyone off - even the dog! I really wish she would sometimes!

Re: Playing or fighting?

kitten fight!!

at their age growling and leaping are fine

no blood though!

looks awful & sounds bad

if you want to stop it throwing a toy mouse etc will distract them - most likely normal & cats like a hierarchy, boy sounds like the boss, you said he was food boss?
if skye seems happy & contented ( not when chased!) say with you in the room - purring when fussed etc, its just their thing - gali ( tabby in photo) is submissive - always gave way for food & toys etc, but purred away when tickled, the 'order' was sorted between 12-16 weeks old and stayed that way

she acts dominant to new kitten in some ways eg grooms his head but when he tries to eat with her she backs off to his bowl without trying. he gets too 'playful' he gets a clawless slap, but out of habit she changes food bowls ( too easily!)

Re: Playing or fighting?

I think they are just playing. She doesn't seem to purr when fussed over though? The only time I've heard her purr was yesterday when benny was licking her - but they purr when agitated too I think? Not sure which one was causing her to purr though.

Re: Playing or fighting?

ear & tail help - but kittens can show 'false' extremes while practising

when i had first 2 they would arch & hiss at each other when little - for 'fun' practise, then roll around then snuggle!

Re: Playing or fighting?

That's really helpful thanks. Spencer moves his tail before pouncing for her but just in the playful way. Both of them knead with their paws a lot, which I noticed from day 1.
