Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

Im just ordering things for him now -

Go Cat Complete Kitten Dry Food (thats what the lady Im getting him from has been feeding him)
ASDA Kitten Variety Wet Pouches
Litter tray/scoop
Feeding bowls

And tomorrow afternoon I will be picking up a carrier, blanket, scratching post.

I have a few questions, tho, as Ive been told conflicting things.

Kitty is litter trained, but as I have a 3 year old and a 7 month old baby, I thought Id let him sleep in my bedroom in his pet carrier for the first few weeks, should I put the litter tray in my room or in the kitchen? What are the odds that he will actually sleep in the pet carrier, as I dont want him on my bed and scratching my hair/face like my friends cat does... ?

He hasnt been wormed or flead yet, when should I do this and how?

I know these seem like basic questions but Ive told different things :/

Re: Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

How old is he?
The food he is on now isn't particularly 'good' food - though you need to keep him on it while he settles in. Have a look at the Hobbs' threads at the top of the health section - better quality food isn't any more expensive and will be much better for your kittens health.

He will need a litter tray in every room he goes in if he is very wee as he will be like a toddler just started training - when he needs to go he needs to go. He may or may not sleep in his carrier - mine sleep anywhere but on the things I have bought for them! I don't let kittens into my bedroom at night cos they do tend to play lots - my newest one is put in the kitchen at night. When she is older I'll let her in the bedroom with the others who just lie still.

He should have been wormed at 2/4 6/ and 8 weeks and already deflead - but I'm guessing you will have to do that asap - once you get him I suggest a vet check asap - they will give you wormer and deflea-er that is appropriate for his age and weight. He will need his first set of jabs at 9 and 12 weeks and then annually. He will need neutering at around 5/6 months.

By the way - fee for advice is photos!!!!!

Hi, Great advice from Spid. Especially with having children i would take your
new fur baby, if possible to the vets for a check before you get him home.

Looking forward to photos

Re: Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

Must admit I am a bit concerned that he hasnt been de-flead or wormed yet :/

My sister thinks the breeder sounds a bit dodgy due to this, but Im not sure as Ive never had a kitten before (in the last year, both of my sisters and both of my best friends have brought cats... And now Im hooked! Totally their fault!)

Re: Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

tbh if hes in yr room he will probably be on yr bed! he'll need access to food, water and litter tray in the room, and the carrier wont be big enough for these!

Re: Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

Hmmph... He cant sleep in the kitchen due to gappy cupboards, and the wires behind the TV in the living room scare me....

I could shut all doors barring the one to my bedroom and have him in the hall way at night time? Then he can wander the stairs too.

My sister thinks Im worrying over nothing but I dont want to be a bad kitty mummy !

How old is he?

How about using a large dog cage at night which would have room for litter tray, water and food and bedding?

Re: Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

At 9 weeks he will want to play. I would not have him in the bedroom at night as at that age you will "lose" your toes if they pop out of the duvet as he will hunt them. Similarly When you body moves under the duvet he will jump on you! We have tried t have young kittens and cats in our room but it does not work and contributes to a broken sleep! When they are older I think it is fine but when so young, the just wnat to play.

Re: Picking my kitty up on Thursday :D

Im a bit worried now...

I asked the woman again if he had ever been wormed/flead and her reply was "Why are you asking this again, and why have you emailed me from 2 different email addresses? Im concerned now"

Ive been emailing her for 2 days from the same email address and Im asking again because before I only asked if he was being wormed/flead before being handed over and she said no, and I wanted to know if he had ever been done...

Strange?
