Apprehensive

On Sunday I go away for a week for the first holiday in ages. But all I think about is my two little ones. I know they are in good hands with my Father and I will be ringing up to check on them but that doesn`t stop me worrying. I have even brought their Advocate drops forward a couple of days to give me longer to observe them in case there is a reation from one of them, there hasn`t been so far when they have been given it. Is this a normal or am I going OTT?

Re: Apprehensive

I dont think you're being OTT at all but I'm sure they'll both be absolutely fine with your father looking after them and in their own home instead of a cattery. I haven't had a holiday for about 5 years - and that was just 4 days in Cornwall lol - due to having always had cats and not being able to contemplate the thought of putting them in a cattery! (not that I'm saying anyone who does this is in any way neglectful, just that I personally would worry far too much to enjoy my hol!) When we did last go away my brother was living with us at the time so the 2 cats I had then were fine. Didn't stop me worrying about them though, it's perfectly natural but a holiday will do you the world of good I'm sure

Re: Apprehensive

You are not being OTT BUT here is my word of warning from the other side!

We went away in June and after booking a cattery, we got a sitter for Ella and Archie (This was pre Cleo) as we felt a cattery would not be right for them. The sitter was great and was going in twice a day, we got a text every other day BUT I worried myself sick. I couldn't get my mind off how they were doing and I felt awful for leaving them. It marred my holiday slightly and I didn't feel I relaxed! When I got home they were both fine and now I feel a bit cheated that I didn't enjoy my holiday as much as I could.Honestly you deserve the holiday, you have paid for the holiday. ENJOY IT xx

Re: Apprehensive

I'm totally nervous about leaving my cat in a cattery in a few weeks the lady at the cattery said the first time is the worst, after that the cat knows what is happening when they go there and don't mind after that, but I think the first time will be the worst for me too!!! Once I know he manages it OK, I'll cope with leaving him there next time!!!

Re: Apprehensive

If you're going OTT, I don't know what I am. I find it hard to leave mine for more than a few hours.

I'm sure they will be fine but I understand how hard it is to leave them. But do as others have said and enjoy your holiday.

Hope you have a nice time

Re: Apprehensive

I know how you feel. I have put previous cats in a cattery for two weeks, two brothers who shared the same pen. One was neither up nor down but Felix was very unhappy and he made me feel really guilty afterwards.
Now my children are adults and don't want to come on holiday with us (the feeling is mutual LOL) so we have live-in cat sitters. Doesn't stop me e-mailing every day day to ask how is everything? How are the cats? My children now pre-empt my e-mails and let me know the cats are fine without having to ask.
Enjoy your holiday. The cats may be in the huff with you when you get back though but it will be short-lived if I know anything about it!
