Vet anxiety

Hi All

I have to take De-de and Dotty for their jabs today

I have never had a problem with the vets up untill Little Mo, I took her with what I thought was furball trouble and it ended up with a week hospital stay for her and then being PTS after spending her last 2 days at home.

i have changed Vet
1 because it would mean going back into the 1 and only consulting room where she breathed her last breath
2 because i didnt feel the communication was very good.

I feel really nervous about taking them, If i didnt know how important the jabs were I'm sure i'd be putting it off

Feel quite sad today it seems to of opened the pain of losing her up again (allthough it hasnt gone away yet I just managed to control it better )

Re: Vet anxiety

Reading your post made me really sad - although I have not been through the heart ache of having a pet PTS i can imagine how going back to the same place where it all happened would bring back painful memories.

Changing vet was probably a good idea and you need to be strong now for your new furbabies. Maybe if you are so nervous the cats will pick up on it too and become more anxious? You just need to remember how important the vaccs are for your little ones and focus on them coming home safe and healthy.

However, I realise all this is easier said than done Good luck - everything will be fine!

P.S. I've just had a nosey on your profile and seen the pics of your girls - they are goooooorgeous!! So cute.

Re: Vet anxiety

Have you had a word with the vet receptionist about your anxiety? It may help. A good practice will be understanding and helpful with something like this and will do their best to make you feel extra special and welcome when you get there. If they seem uncaring, find yet another vet. If you aren't happy there your pets won't be either and that's not good for anyone's anxiety.

Beyond this though, I imagine once you have made your first visit things will seem better and brighter. You probably just need to get over that first hurdle.

Best wishes and let us know how it goes x

Re: Vet anxiety

Thanks all it does help alot

This vet is recommended by a friend and her daughter is a nurse there. its a bit further to travel than my old vets but they have 24hour own support and hospital attatched, my old ones hospital was 9 miles away and that still breaks my heart that she had to travel there without me

They seemed really nice on the phone I will explain to them about the past.

The vet also has a special interest in Cats he has enough of his own

They go at 3.30 eldest son coming with me hopefully they will have no side effects

Thanks again shall update later
i hope i dont break down in the practice could you imagine they'd think i was mad kittens jabs and woman dissolves into floods of tears

Re: Vet anxiety

How did it go? I had a real problem with my old workplace got associated in my mind with grief because of something that happened and I never really got over it...I can sympathise with apparently random blubbing! If its really bad, you could try some phobia type techniques?
