Smile New Kitten has arrived :-)

Hi all,

I used to post here all the time but my account seems to have been deleted. Anyway, I have a dog called Monty but as of today I am a new owner of an 8 week old kitten.

Now we know a lot about dogs but when it comes to kittens i'm trying to read up as soon as possible.

He has met our dog Monty and they seem to get on ok, the kitten is not scared of our Bichon at all which is great.

I need your help to find out what I should be doing/have done now.

He is litter trained already and has his own house, bowls etc.

I'd appreciate any advice on health, injections or anything else.

Many thanks!

Darren

Re: New Kitten has arrived :-)

He needs his kitten injections as he should have had those before leaving his old home. These need to be done at 9 and 12 weeks.

He needs to stay on the same food as he has been eating at the old place for now, and then you can switch him to a food of your choice. There is a wealth of info in the health and nutrition section, but the crux is that wet is best, and the higher the meat content, the better.

I would suggest him having his own room for now as he is still very young to be away from mum, and he needs to have his own space to feel safe and to find the litter box. A whole house is a bit overwhelming.

He may also need flea treatments and will probably need a worming too if he hasnt had one at the old home. I would recommend a vet visit for those, and to avoid over the counter treatments.

Re: New Kitten has arrived :-)

I would like to welcome you back to the forum and congratulate you on your new addition. I echo all of glowworm*mushrooms advice he needs a vet check up for a health check worming and fleaing and then he can be booked in for his 9 week old vaccs and then 12 week old ones. These are really important just as important as puppy vaccs.

I would also say us here on the cat forums have a rule...... we NEED pics

Look forward to getting my fix of new kitten pics soon and feel free to come back for more advice or chatting

Here's a pic just to wet your appetite! Although I think it may display sideways!

Because the kitten is so small we can't really tell if its Male or Female!! I think its a male but could be wrong!!
