Next step in cat / kitten introductions?

Hi,
I am in the process of introducing my 2 year old female cat to my 10 week old female kitten and I've been following all the advice and articles etc on here so far.
We are at the stage where we can bring Inca (the kitten) in a kitten pen into the lounge and Gizmo (existing cat) will come into the same room and watch. We are still getting some hissing and growling but today was the first time she watched the kitten for 10 minutes without hissing.
At what stage should I move onto the next stage of allowing them in the same room together but supervised?

Re: Next step in cat / kitten introductions?

have her est in the same room as kitten in pen moving them closer together -then if shes still normal

what i did ( yr old and 10 1/2 week kit) is wait till gali was setteled at top of sofa, then let little out to run around - as he wasnt near her she could see him & his energy - without being pestered!

she now greets him when she comes in ( nose to forehead) and brief licks which are increasing

Re: Next step in cat / kitten introductions?

Hi,

Have to admit i had a stressful week with my introductions with my two but it did go smoothly from there

I think you are doing everything correctly. I didnt separate in that way but i know that is recommended.

I used to bring Indy into the room in regular intervals, first holding her and then putting her on the floor and letting Honey get used to her being in the room.

She hissed and growled and used to bop her a few times but i would be right there. Honey actually got worse with |Indy before she got better. I took 3 days off work and continually placed them in the same room.

I used a feliway diffuser, scent swapped their things all of the time. Constantly petted both of them again swapping their scents.

Honey would jump on Indy and they would fight which was pretty scary.
Indy was a feisty little thing and gave back, it was Honey establishing her place in the pecking order.

I never left them on their own until i was confident they were both happy, when they washed each other for the first time i nearly cried

Everyone does introductions their own way and what works for some cats may not work for others.

In my case, i just wanted to get it over as quick as possible because of work and harmony in the household and luckily with a few days of me being constantly with them it enabled me to do it quickly

Good luck

Kelly xx
