Exclamation Urgent! Letting cat out after 2 weeks at friends house

Please help! Cat is itching to get outside! He's been at a friends house while we've been away for 2 weeks, and has been kept inside the whole time. Is it ok just to let him out now he's back home, or does he need to get used to him surroundings again!!!

Re: Urgent! Letting cat out after 2 weeks at friends house

A few years ago we stayed in a temp flat for four months as we were having a considerable amount of work down to our place and did not want to live thgere whilst it was done. We rented a flat from a cat friendly person on gumtree and Ella and our other cat at the time could not go out as the flat was on the 13th floor. When we got home we gave it a couple of days and waiting to near meal time before letting the girls out. They were fine and came back on a biscuit rattle x

Re: Urgent! Letting cat out after 2 weeks at friends house

We always feed our cats when they come back from the cattery - not too much so that they are still a bit hungry but something tasty like tuna to remind them that home is where the good food is. They are usually dying to get out after that and we have never had a problem with them coming back. They have been in the cattery for as much as two and a half weeks so as long as he seems to recognise his surroundings I would just let him out.

Not sure what to advise as my cats have always been indoor cats.My gut instinct would be not to let him out now,but to wait until tomorrow morning and then let him out without feeding him,so that he has to come home for food.Good luck.
