How can I worm my cat?

Hi

I have 2 female cats of 17.1/2 years.

I am having problems worming them as I find that trying to give them tablets distresses them so much, also I have to be careful due the the fact that their teeth and gums are quite sensitive due to their ages.

I have used the granuals in the past but now they just seem to know they are in the food and refuse to eat it.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

What about using some Spot on wormer that you apply to the back of the neck.

This stuff:

Spoton cat dewormer from Bob Martins

Please be very careful with over the counter wormers/flea treatments. At best they dont work at worst can be dangerous.I would contact your vet for advice and get wormers from them.

Re: How can I worm my cat?

you can get a spot on wormer from your vets, also there is a 'pill gun' that you should be able to pick up form vets aswel that helps aid giving tablets with less stress for the cat/s

Re: How can I worm my cat?

I've never wormed my cats myself. I always got the vet to do it. I spoke to my friend and she gets Spot On from the vet. I just assumed that the Bob Martin spot on was the same stuff as my friend. Apologies if I was wrong

I know one of the girls whom i work with takes her cat to the vets to get wormed. Even the vet cant do the tablets with her cat, i know the vet does the drop at the back of the neck, but not sure what its called but its vet strength not like the bob martin stuff.

Give your vets a shout they should be able to help x

Re: How can I worm my cat?

The worming tablets I get from my vet are bright pink and small (sorry I don't know what they're called), and they're small enough that I can crush them up VERY finely in the cats food and they will eat it without noticing.
Otherwise, try the tablet in a piece of cheese - by the time they've noticed its too late.

Re: How can I worm my cat?

Throwing the cat amongst the pigeons but do your cats need to be wormed? Do they go out, hunt and eat their prey or are they indoor cats that get wet or dry food, which greatly minimises the chance of them getting worms in the first place.

Re: How can I worm my cat?

Thanks for your replies, I have looked at the spot on on the net and it only seems to treat tape worms and that is the same brand as the tab I get from my yet.

Its a good question, do they need to be wormed? Well they are old and do not go out much and I am certain that they do not leave the garden. One used to hunt but she can't be bothered any more but I can say that Mindy's coat improves after she has been wormed and so I assume that it needs to be done!
