Question Does anyone know the answer

Does anyone know whether this rather ugly looking beetle is likely to nip a cat if it is daft enough to try to catch it,also is it likely to be harmful, rather than painful.Meeko was chasing one across the floor lastnight The RSPB: A to Z of a Wildlife Garden: Devil's coach horse

No idea Slayer but it certainly looks as though you shouldn't mess with it. Is Mr M feeling ok?

Big brave mummy caught it and removed it before any damage was done to either "beastie".Just wondered incase it, or its mates decide to visit again

Re: Does anyone know the answer

I would say very unlikely to be harmful because it's not poisonous. Potentially painful, yes!

Re: Does anyone know the answer

Oh my that is a very nasty bug. I would suggest to take it outside. In case your cat gets biten by it. You would only find these critters in the countryside houses. Or where there is decaying logs of wood. Up in wales they had a few of these. Beautiful to look at though extremely harmful.

Re: Does anyone know the answer

Very likely to have given a nasty nip if Meeko had caught it but Devil's Coach-horses aren't poisonous.
I had a Siamese that cornered a stag beetle once She wouldn't go too close though
I don't mind any of the big beetles so long as they aren't flying

Thank you.I hope I never have to find out whether it will nip him,but bless his little cotton socks,he does tend to act first and ask questions later He's not the sharpest tool in the box
