Living without a cat
Being on this forum is great for me as it allows me to get my cat fix. I always had a cat when growing up, infact since the ages of 4-20 I have never been without the company of atleast one cat in my home. However, two years ago I moved in with some friends from university and we live in student accommodation which doesn't allow pets but that's irrelevant anyway as 3 of my 4 housemates have cat allergies - the worst bunch of people for me to ever move in with!
:-) My boyfriend and his housemate have recently got a kitten and i'm completely in love with her - definitely taking over a little bit but I just can't resist! hehe. As soon as I finish university and find a place of my own I am going to go straight to the local rescue centre and find myself a kitty companion. I'd like atleast 3 cats eventually, my friends think i'm going to end up with a house full though and turn into some sort of crazy cat lady...but do you know what? I'd be just fine with that ![]() Anyone else on here currently living with a cat shaped hole in their lives? |

Re: Living without a cat
I doubt it could happen here. If I lose one to ill health or it disappears without trace, it seems word gets round that there's a place going at *Ians house* and a deserving case finds it's way thro' the flap. It's happened too often to be just coincidence, I'm convinced there's a local cat-club where they all get together to pass on tips on homes/food/etc

Re: Living without a cat
Until last Wednesday I did too, only had them at home with my parents and used to pop over to my boss' house for hugs with hers. I know how you feel
![]() Now I have 2 little kittens who rely on me....scary but wonderful ![]() |

Re: Living without a cat
Yep, when I moved out of home and came to the UK, I left my family cat - a beautiful brown burmese who I'd known since I was 10. We were backpacking, so a cat wasn't really a possibility although I have seen a few people that make it work. When we settled in the UK first it was shared accommodation so no pets, then a little one bed flat that wasn't really the best for the kind of breed I wanted. It took me a while to wear down my husband, who is a cat lover but thought getting a kitten was a bit soon at the moment as we don't know what we are doing in the next 5 years, let alone the next 20
.But ![]() Once we had decided to move out of the one bed and I had done all the research on the possibilities of moving a cat from the UK to the US or Aus, we went and got our boys. Technically we were looking for girls ready in 6 weeks (so they would get the new big flat with garden) but once I'd seen two boys I just couldn't wait any longer . Now of course I couldn't live without them. |

Re: Living without a cat
I lost my beloved cats within a year of each other, when the first died I coped as I still had the other to look after and love, but even though I had my boys who were little at the time the house wasn't the same without a cat. My neighbours cat had had kittens a few weeks before and my husband said "lets go take a look", I felt guilty as Paws had been gone about a week and felt like I was replacing him, but we went and our Scamp crawled over to us even though his eyes were virtually still shut, we had to wait a few weeks until he came home but I believe it was meant to be and he chose us, he's a cantankerous old sod, won't sit on your lap, although we do have some rare footage of this phenonemom actually happening
and he's a constant worry, but I love him to bits and wouldn't want to be without him. We have said that when the dreaded time comes we won't have another for various reasons, but we said that before ![]() |

Re: Living without a cat
My cat Bubble went missing almost 3 months ago (12 weeks tomorrow & still counting...) so yes a very very big cat shaped hole here. This was the reason I joined the forum. Still hoping (though the hope is ebbing more as time goes on) that she'll be one of those miracle cats who just stroll back in months later & I can't get another cat until i'm sure that's not going to happen. i have thought about it though. Not for now but I know at some point one will find its way in again! Life without a cat would be a pretty soulless existence for me (crazy cat lady & proud of it lol!). I've had up to 4 cats at various points over the years so to now have none feels pretty empty. Bubble going missing though has thrown open all sorts of debates for me though...the whole indoor/outdoor debate for one... So I've lots to think about before I'd be able to consider a new cat.
