Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

I just put our new cat in our bedroom to seperate from our other cat and she growled at me after five mind! Before I took her up there she was all over me purring away having hugs so I was taken aback when I went to stroke her and she backed right up while really growling at me like she had never seen me before. Now I can hear her running around banging up there...I'm wondering if it's best to put her in the living room to sleep tonight instead of our room as she hasn't even met my other half yet and I'm worries with us both being enclosed in.the room with her will stress her out.

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

she hasnt been in that room before

its all new - you need to choose whats easier - there for a few days or living room for a few - remember you cant let the boy meet her till op - which is easier? i cant say...

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

Well bedroom is easier as in the day my toddler runs around the living room and kitchen. Is that the reason she growled, because it was a new room? I thought she suddenly decided she didn't like me after all!

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

Yeah that makes sense, she probably didn't growl when she was first here because no one went near her for a couple of hours while she got used to the room and I let her come to me. I guess I just keep comparing the situation to when we got iggle at 8 weeks old as he wasn't scared at all and didn't growl once even after five mins of arriving, but nala is very scared and sketchy. Age probably has alot to do with that though I'm guessing?

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

The other reason for the growling-and it's not directed at you at all-is that perhaps she could detect the scent your other cat on your hands or in the room. Some cats can react like this even when already exposed to the same elsewhere in the house. The newness of the room probably added to her fears so she reacted like she did.

Hope she's a little more settled now!

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

I would imagine she is very stressed with all the change she has been going through, could you get a feliway diffusser to plug in the bedroom as that should make her feel more relaxed if she is a very nervous cat, but time, patience and kindness will help her feel more settled.

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

Thanks everyone, she is defiantly more settled then last night and has decided she loves our window-sill! She didn't come up to either of us for hugs but I'm hoping given time she will be alright.

Re: Just Put New Kitty In Bedroom...

She will be fine.
Every kitty has their ways. Some settle in very quick others are a little frightened and may take a few days.
If you get a packet of dreamies. (cat treats). Then after a few days try hand feeding her some treats. It might help with her bonding with you.
They love Dreamies.
Don't forget to give your Furry Boy some too.

The feliway plug in as Greyhare suggested is a very good idea
