Unhappy Just dropped off Dinah and Monty at the vets

We've just arrived at work after dropping our babies off at the vets for neutering and microchipping. We both feel like horrible mummies, even though we know what we're doing is the best possible thing for all of us.

They cried when we said goodnight to them last night (as that is usually after we have fed them and they had to be starved from 8pm) and they cried when we got up this morning and didn't feed them. Poor things looked so confused.

They have never been separated before as they've been together since birth, and the one time I did separate them accidentally (closed a door between them) Dinah cried and cried at the door until I opened it and let Monty through. I have noticed they don't cry for us if they have each other, but they definitely cry for each other. Which is very sweet but also worrying as they're going to be in separate cages at the vets, and obviously separated when they have their ops.

I'm trying not to worry too much but it's very hard, isn't it? I've never been in this situation before! I can't help imagining the worst case scenarios.

Please send lots of good thoughts in the general direction of East Yorkshire! Hopefully everything will go perfectly smoothly and we will go to collect two drowsy little kittens at about 4pm this afternoon. They're going to ring me after lunch. (The vets, not the kittens! Although that would be cute! )

It's just awful for us when they are having an op, I am sure they will both be fine, but that doesn't stop us from worrying. They will soon be back home and getting into mischief.

Re: Just dropped off Dinah and Monty at the vets

Oh Bonnie I know just how you feel, as a month ago you were reassuring me

Dinah and Monty will be fine, just a bit sore, which gives you even more of an excuse for extra cuddles and attention.

What time do you collect them?

My two were fed by the vets after surgery and the vet told me they probably wouldn't need feeding when they got home. How wrong was she?! - they both ate LOADS!

Keep us updated and big hugs as I understand no matter how straight forward it is, they are your babies and away from you and you worry.

Re: Just dropped off Dinah and Monty at the vets

Oh sweetie Big hugs coming to you and positive vibes to Monty & Dinah.

Try to stay positive and keep yourself busy this morning. We're all here for you.

Also, I'm with Lumboo - whenever any of mine have had ops and been knocked out, I was always told by the vet "Oh they probably won't eat much......" Oh yeah??? Well someone should have told the cats that because they ALL hoovered up what ever was put in front of them and came looking for more!!!

Merson likes donuts so he had a sugared one all to himself after his op which I think he rather enjoyed and meant that I was forgiven much quicker.

As much as we know in our heads we are doing the right thing, it doesn't stop our hearts wishing they didn't have to go through it, I would have quite easily swapped places with Molly when I left her at the vet when she had her op!

(((big hugs))) to mummies, I think you both need them

Re: Just dropped off Dinah and Monty at the vets

Monty and Millie were neutered on Monday, and when I went to check on them after the op they were in the same cage together, so hopefully your two will be as well.
Of course I was told to keep them quiet and only feed a tiny amount when they came home....well they were extra manic the whole evening and ate several ( smallish ) meals.
Try not to worry too much, easier said than done I know.x
