Re: Do you feel relaxed when your cats are outside?

I worry about Scamp when he goes out but he would never have settled as an indoor cat, so it's the price I pay I have great neighbours, none of whom have cats, but they all know him and keep a look out for him He's taken to laying by the garage under the car, so now everyone has to check before moving off, he hates cars though so usually darts out pretty quick when the door is opened

Re: Do you feel relaxed when your cats are outside?

I never worry about Oscar when he goes out because he never leaves the garden anymore. But Merson has given me so many grey hairs over the years and still does. He loves a good wander and although he's reasonably safe because he usually stays in the gardens, I have caught him a few times out the front on the pavement or worse, in the gardens across the road. He was grounded on those occasions and seems to have either learnt from it & no longer does it or does it when he knows I won't spot him.... I just DO NOT breathe easy until he is back in the house or lying in the garden where I can see him. Abby is desperate to go out but she is just TOO friendly and would go to anyone who gave her the time of day so she is completely indoors for now.

We are looking at the options of trying to cat proof the garden but it is an awkward one as our garden is a shared access one with our neighbours and he comes through a lot.

Re: Do you feel relaxed when your cats are outside?

Jack is 10 years old and has gone out as much as he likes all his life.
Daisie is a allowed out but she probably goes out twice a day and never beyond the garden. In the winter she hardly ever leaves the house and becomes an indoor cat.
Scamp and Rosie we lost on the road in their 2nd year of life. Not at the same time though. This was two years apart. I've always been happy to let cats roam and let them out soon after spaying/neutering. However, after we lost Rosie I felt so guilty that maybe I had caused her death by giving her so much freedom.
Our new kitten Mo is going to be kept in until she is much older. I read somewhere that cats get a bit more sense once they reach 2 years old. Is this true?
