Cat with MPD (or it feels like it!)

I've had Percy for almost a year now and he and I get on great. He loves his daily cuddles with me, plays a lot, and eats well. The problem is my OH felt he never really bonded with the cat (OH came first before cat, if anyone's wondering). Percy comes to me for everything, cuddles, food, treats, playtime, etc and I think my OH felt a little bit unloved since he was the favourite with his family cat when he was younger.

Lately it wasn't just indifference though, Percy has been actively stalking and biting and scratching my OH unprovoked, leaving deep gauges on his arms and feet and drawing blood, which I suspect is no longer just "games". I haven't changed anything form his regular rotation of food, litter, and playtime, and he's a completely different cat with me, very loving and cuddly, and I'm wondering if there is anything my OH or I can do about the situation that might encourage Percy not to view my OH as the enemy? It doesn't help matters that OH's friends and family are all like, "Oh, the cat obviously needs to go out, he's acting up because he's kept indoors all the time." and I really want to do something about it before my OH starts agreeing with them!

He is neutered, indoor-only, and fed primarily wet food (Bozita tins and pate tetrapacks, Animonda Carny tins, Smilla tins, NI raw) with a small amount of Applaws dry in a treat ball every night before bed. He has toys galore, a ceiling cat tree, an upstairs scratcher and many cardboard boxes.

I wonder if Percy is able to pick up vibes from your OH and is not liking what he senses and is being protective towards himself. Just a thought

couldl be a dominant thing ie percy being male and a bit of opposition with your oh. perhaps you should get a female for your oh

Whoops i read that wrong. Im guessing u mean a female cat and not a female for her OH lol
could you try and get your Other half to do the feeding and give him some treats.

Also try and make sure your partner has some nice playtime with the cat when your not around.

It could be, but my OH has never been aggressive towards Percy, he just felt a little unloved and rejected by the cat of the house. He was the one who picked Percy out initially (I wanted a cat, my OH did the choosing). I don't know if it's jealousy or bullying.

My OH already has a female, thanks!

I have temporarily made my OH the King of Treats and only my OH will be giving out treats now, hoping Percy will associate behaving well around my OH with getting nice things. I just don't know how it escalated from a peaceful household to something akin to a battle every morning.

I did think about getting a female cat as the saying goes mummy's boy daddy's girl, but I was assured that once neutered (and Percy was done at 2 days shy of 6 months, and that was in Feb) that male and female cats are almost the same since boycats shouldn't have any male hormones without their bits. My OH isn't keen on a 2nd cat because he's convinced a) two cats will fight and b) 2nd cat may still hate him and he's had enough aggression from one cat.

Re: Cat with MPD (or it feels like it!)

As already suggested ,treat giving is your OH job,but I would go one step further if it is possible, and that is that you try to take a back seat in the meal time routine too.If your other half is seen by Percy as the bearer of good things food/treats /playing ect he may mellow a bit.Im not suggesting that you dont play with or cuddle Percy just that your OH takes over the main feeding, giving out treats ect.It may also be worth trying Felifriend,I used this when I was trying to wean Meeko of the feliway diffuser and I think it helped.
Bestpet Pharmacy - Felifriend Spray Good luck I hope your OH finds a way to convince Percy that he is not the bad guy.

Thanks for the suggestions, I know your Meeko was a handful in the past too. I've got a bottle of Feliway spray I've used when traveling but not the diffuser, not bought Felifriend yet but I'll definitely look into getting some in! OH has taken over breakfast feeding the past three days though I still do dinner and litterbox-cleaning. So far no new cases of bloodletting, just the occasional nip and pouncing on ankles, but I understand it'll take time to build trust between the two.
