Oh no, he did it again!

Until now every time I've read about someone's cat peeing somewhere they weren't meant to I thought "at least my cat never did that"...erm...well after the peeing on the guests bed issue nearly a week ago, he peed on my hubby's leather jacket!! Right in front of both of us! It looked like he was just having an investigate of it and then I said "that's funny, he sits like that in the litter tray"....erm! but he was...peeing...

Is squatting down for a pee different to 'spraying'? it doesn't smell very much.

Last time the vet said i'd given his meds too close together, ive been religious about giving them at 12 hour intervals so as far apart as possible! but could it be the steroids?

Why would he start peeing places other than his litter tray after 9 weeks with us? (PS I'm shocked it is only 9 weeks, it feels like forever!)

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

It might be a long shot, but change the type of soil in the litter box. He may not like the smell of it.

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

I've been using the same type of litter for maybe 6 weeks now, I don't think it can be that. He does run like hell after using the litter tray, I don't know if that means he doesn't like it?

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

i would get him in and tested for a urine infection, my twix started doing it recently too and turns out that`s what it was and he associated the litter tray with the pain. we even caught him up on the dining room table peeing i think if it were me, i`d rule that possibility out before messing around with different litters etc
Aurelia, fierceabby and kaz25 like this.

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

Ok, I can do that. The vet won't think I'm overreacting when it was just twice? Could the running like hell after peeing be a sign of pain too?

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

If you are worried then take him to the vets, it may be a UTI. Unfortunately cats can develop these & they can be painful.

You also need to make sure you clean the area thouroughly so he doesn't continue to associate the same place by smell & keep using it. Pick things up so he doesn't have things to 'go' on - I had to remove a plant that one of my cats had started to wee on, it was annoying as I really liked it but for some reason she did too!

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

Vet booked for 3.40. The area that needs cleaning is a leather jacket...!

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

The vet doubts UTI because he's been peeing a normal amount, but has given me a 'smart cat' test kit anyway so we will see. She's also taken his dosage of steroids down, from twice a day to once a day, as he sounds a lot less wheezy anyway so that seems to be working well and we'll be back really soon for the asthma check up! Poor kitty...4 vet visits in 9 weeks and another coming up already.

Re: Oh no, he did it again!

i`m starting to get sick of vets saying this!! sorry it`s just annoying me now as they told me the same thing and that it couldn`t be a uti cause twix was still peeing as normal but just not in the tray and once i forced him to do the test he was shocked to find he had a really bad uti. like i said he was still normal in every other way, there`s another thread where another member was told the same thing too but the only way a vet will know is by testing for the uti so i don`t see why they keep saying this! sorry, that wasn`t aimed at you i just had to rant as it just seems vets can`t be bothered checking properly and am still peed that my boy suffered so long cause they said uti wasn`t possible

hope you manage to get the sample ok but if not i`d be taking the cat to another vet and ask them to try and extract a sample which is what i had to do in the end to find out (he squeezed twix`s bladder till he peed ). what was he on steroids for? i can`t see if you`ve mentioned that. i don`t think they`d cause a uti as i know some vets use anti inflammatory steroids to treat uti`s but maybe something lies in the reason the cat`s on steroids in the first place?
