Do different colours have different personalities?

As the title says, in your experience have you ever noticed a certain coloured cat has a certain personality trait? By this I am referring to general moggies as of course different breeds we know have different traits.

Re: Do different colours have different personalities?

In my experience personality has nothing to do with the colour. My ginger cat was a big affectionate softie, and my two b/w cats are growing to be the same way.

I think the personality of the father (usually unknown in moggies), the socialisation of the kittens in the first 4-14 weeks and the introduction into the home are all very important to the way the cat ultimately ends up behaving.

It is nature and nurture determined - not colour related

Re: Do different colours have different personalities?

Nope. People might refer to 'naughty torties' etc but, of course, same as human hair/skin/eye colour, personality is nothing to do with colour

Re: Do different colours have different personalities?

Ive had tabby, tabby&white, tortie, black& white (as a temporary foster),and now of course Meeko the Merciless (but he doesnt count) Cant say I noticed any difference in personality that could be explained by coat colour, some folks say that Torties have "Tortietude"but my tortie was an absolute sweetheart, which in its self goes against common belief

Re: Do different colours have different personalities?

theres been loads of studies into this and apparantly its true, but I dont know how big the surveys were, conditions etc.

ive never really believed it was colour, more to the surroundings which they grow.. but..

Just google to see the results.. strangely though they all had the same or similar results

Re: Do different colours have different personalities?

No I don't believe so. We have 4 black and whites and they all have very different personalities.

cats develop their own personalities, but colour has nothing to do with it. i have owned cats now for 15 years. i used to have a ginger female who was very mischievous, but the ginger female(jaffa) i have now is so placid and just likes to snuggle up to you. when my other cats have their mad hour she looks at them in disgust and then looks at me as if to say "have you seen what they are doing". its quite funny to see.

Re: Do different colours have different personalities?

I've never noticed this myself. My torti mitzi who is 13 and who i have had since i was 13, has never ever liked being picked up! I remember taking her to the vets once for vaccinations or something and the vet told me that it was "cos she is a tortoise shell and they're quite feisty" but of course I've met many tortoise shells over the years who haven't been this way so i think all cats are individuals same as people
